We have the same thing here at a grocery chain called Martins. Its parent company is in fact Giant Eagle. I have 3 kids in the family and we burn through about $160.00 a week in just groceries. The only problem with Martins gas discount is that they only sell gas, no diesel pumps !!! All we drive are diesels .... Go figure....My father in law is cleaning up on his fuel prices though because we just give our discount to him....

You mean to say you don't get your gas at little sandy's?!

Haa !!! ( small world ) No I live 45 minutes in the opposite direction, in the frostburg md. area. I do occasionally go there if i am really sucking fumes because it is the closest diesel pump from where I work. Their prices are usually about 5 cents higher than everywhere else.

Whenever I hear Garret county, I always think of those rolling "hills" high above Friendsville, with those cold winds in the icy winter (or the "D.C resort area" in McHenry).

I'll have to look at my cabelas club visa and see how their cabelas point system works. Have close to 70 bucks in cabelas points, always pay off my card every month, but heck, just looked yesterday thinking about this thread, for non-cabela purchases, they are getting close to 16%? interest! Don't like that just for that fact alone.

Giant Eagle just opened a store in LBrown's city last year, along with a gas station to redeem the fuel perks.
1*Maybe he can provide some feedback on how grocery prices at his new Giant Eagle compare to the Kroger and Walmart Supercenter on the other side of town. I highly doubt groceries are $50 more at the location in his city.

All 3 of these places are higher than Food 4 Less Aldies and Save a lot.
My cousin works at Giant Eagle. I haven't gotten to talk to her to get her feed back on this.
Both my brother and my wife feel prices are higher at Giant Eagle.
As for the gas station to redeem the fuel perks I have noticed on several occasions that diesel there was any where from 1 to 10 cents more than the lowest priced diesel elsewhere.

No one said they paid $50 more for groceries.
That's not hard to believe especially if they never realized that they did.

One thing I've learned is nothing in life is free, and if you think it is, you're paying for it else where and don't even know it.

Those are all bargain basement "no frills" stores where you even have to pay for grocery bags.

Back to my original question...
Now that Giant Eagle has entered Marietta, how do their prices compare with the "mainline" chains in town (Kroger and Walmart Supercenter)?

Thanks for the advice. There are few people dumb enough to assume that they're getting something for nothing or that the grocery store is taking a loss on the fuel sale or if they are, they're making it up somewhere else.

I am incredulous that someone starts a thread to share how they saved money by buying fuel, at a discount, at a grocery store they'd shop at anyway, and people respond by telling them they are getting fleeced because they didn't do an item by item comparison to confirm they're getting the absolute lowest grocery prices.

I don't know about others, but I don't have the time to do comparison grocery shopping. We (my wife does most of it) shop at a place that's convenient (closest store is a 20 mile round trip), has good selection and friendly people to deal with. In other words, we'd shop at this store (Giant) anyway, so getting a discount on fuel is a bonus.

I know people who go grocery shopping at multiple places. One store for this, another for that and a third for something else. They think they're being wise shoppers. Of course, they ignore the cost of fuel for the multiple trips and they don't value the time they spend traveling from store to store.

I agree with you 100%. Per another post here, someone will spend $5 in gas to save $3, just because they are "getting a better deal".

If the market in question is closer, you like dealing with them and you spend more money, but get a discount on gas, who cares?

That being said, from my original question, two supermarkets close to each other, one a giant eagle and another chain, if you buy 50 items of the exact same product, what is the preice difference and with the gas "savings", are you better off at the Giant eagle.

Since I dont have a giant eagle around me, I was wondering, thats all, no more.

But look how many bags you can buy with a 5 dollar savings on groceries and still have money left over!
