I heard yesterday that the current administration just gave orders to pull out our last aircraft carrier group from the Persian Gulf. Have you got a update? If this is true, It is stupid to say the least! Ken Sweet

Completely wrong.

Military Reduces Aircraft Carriers in Persian Gulf to One

You too can research your facts before you go on about how stupid something that isn't going to happen, is. All your doing is feeding baseless rumors irresponsibly

If we had two, I would think that two was required. Now because of overspending, elsewhere and everywhere, we don't have enough funds for 2 carrier groups in the Gulf. Lets see who takes advantage of our underfunded military defenses first? Ken Sweet

The Navy stopped the deployment of the Truman which was on the way to the Gulf so that two CVNs would be on station. Looks like it really screws the sailors and families. The report is "Hard to believe" and is currently the second story on this page from the top. The site in the link is a really good source of information about the Navy and maritime affairs.

Check out the comments because often the comments are just as interesting as the original story.

This same report was where I saw that Mattis was lost his command without notice.

It takes two carriers to maintain flight operation 24 hours a day and with the Truman docked, there is only one CVN sitting near the Persian Gulf. It takes a total of three CVNs to keep one deployed. Currently, the US has 10 CVNs but the Lincoln is docked waiting for new fuel, which is being delayed because of the budget, so we only have 9 CVNs in service. This means on a normal rotation only three are deployed at one time. Seems like in the last election some putz said numbers do not matter and the USN has enough ships.

Later,
Dan

People are just scared the government is going to ban... something. Thus, people are only contributing to the problem by allowing their own fear to cause them to panic. Imagine what would happen if instead of guns and ammo, there were a shortage of toilet paper... now that would be an emergency.

Our military spending exceeds the total sum spending of the second thru fifteenth militaries in the world. If we are out spending the rest of the world combined, and our military is still under funded, then our Admirals and Generals have fleeced us blind.

Something Ike warned us about.

I agree that we are spending plenty on defense. Here is the problem, Our leaders are making dangerous pull backs of essential defense deployments while not cutting the enormous waste in the defense budget. Ken Sweet

Not to worry; it's tax time, plenty of 1040 booklets at the local libraries.

, there were a shortage of toilet paper... now that would be an emergency.

That actually happened in, I believe, the early 70's. The rumor was started and everyone rushed out and bought extra TP and , sure enough, there was a shortage of TP. I was living in Barstow, CA at the time.

Reminds of the TP story I heard about while I was working for the Marine Corps in Barstow. MCLB Barstow was a major supply base for the Viet Nam era. Someone, somewhere ordered 6 BX of TP. They wanted 6 cases but 6 box car loads were ordered.

Interesting side note: There never, ever, was a shortage of gas in Barstow in the 70's. I just assumed they ( you know, the ones that control the universe) did not want the flow of traffic to slow down from LA to Vegas.

But earlier you said:
Lets see who takes advantage of our under funded military defenses first?

Congress, the Administrations, Admirals and Generals have been using the military as a pork barrel jobs program for over half a century. The usefulness of one entire branch of the service is questionable. Just what does the Marine Corps do? They are used as a de facto light infantry in places like Afghanistan and Iraq.

Almost no other countries even own aircraft carriers, and we own ten. Plus we own ten helicopter carriers which are bigger than almost all other carriers in service now, save the US fleet, the Charles De Gaulle and a questionable Chinese craft.

Congress, the JCS and the Administrations have for a long time chosen to fund exceptionally expensive and complicated weapons systems, even when the task and need for these was unknown, and that funding these would systems would jeopardize more basic needs of the services. Our forays into the desert seemed to indicate that we had plenty of $150,000,000.00 planes and trillion dollar battle groups, but a lack of up-armored humvee's and flack jackets.

And exactly where is it stated that two CVN's in the Persian Gulf is an essential deployment?
