Freezer defrost tip

Hosing it out is definitely the best way. Water melts the ice way faster than a heat gun or a fan and there is no risk of melting gaskets or puncturing holes in the freon tubing. I remove the contents and put in ice chests then move the freezer right outside and hose it down, dry it out after and put everything back in it before anything has a chance to defrost. Once a year is generally often enough and it uses about $200 a year less electricity than a self defrosting model.

I just got rid of an old freezer that we had to defrost. I hated it. Now we have an upright frost free and its so easy to find everything.

Amen! That's on my wish list! Upright frost free! Our old chest works great, and doesn't get too frosted up, but still...
