Thanks for the pictures. I really like seeing how home-made inovation works!!

Was this guy working off of a detailed design or did he design it as he put it together?

Great Pictures btw.

Both builders were building on trial and error. The man with the loader designed his arms and mounts like similar to a skid steer. My cousin with the backhoe just started building lol

The guy with the little loader is really good with steel.
Maybe his next project will be a pair of steel toed shoes? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Interesting that you mentioned shoes Jimmy that built the loader is in a wheel chair partially. He had 2 bad car accidents a few years ago. The way he builds is to not make a part or assembly too cumbersome to handle from a wheel chair. Hen he gets positioned he can prop himself up to weld. Hes been thinking of building a hydraulic lift, boom to manuver his chair around the shop.

does that little one (skid steer) use standard car/truck type steering or is it tank skid steer type steering? I see the steering wheel, but I'm wondering if it is a 4 wheel steer and skid steer (opposit rotating wheel dirrection on opposite side type thing?)

ok tell them looks good though! that is comming from a pro fabricator!

Mark Jimmy just linked the 2 steering axles together with a draglink added from one axle to another. He said it wasntfun at first bacaus he steered the rear axle into a ditch he was digging. I told him about how ome of the roughterrain cranes i drive are like that when ou want to steer the rear axle its linked like that but it also has a cylinder in the middle of the link to make the rear wheels either independant or locked on an angle to ccrabsteer with the front axle. With the allwheel steer it has a short turn radius and wont maul the turf like a skid loader.

TTN Yes tell him it's awesome. Some questions. What did he use to power it?and how does it connect through the transfer cases? did heshorten and reweld the axles or just get new ones? I'd like to build one to feed hay in my narrow mangers but I'am not sure I can get the front ends and all the steel cheap enough to make it. One more question, does it have positrac or does it spin out if one wheel lifts. Can he make rough measurements to send me.

Its got a positrac in the rear diff and a limited slip in the front. It digs out of his red clay banks as good as a Bobcat or swinger loader. He had a smaller version planned ith Suzuki Samuria axles that he had narrowed but he sold them to finance a bigger loader. Ithink he used the minvan transmission as well as the motor. The axles he shrtened the hosing done on the long side down to a short side leng then used new short sided live axles he mave have also gotten a few out of the junkyard to. He tells me he could have gone narrower but he didnt want to have to cut the live axles in the center and realign them. It took him a while to scrounge all the parts but took 3 weeks to build. you could use stock xles out from under the fronts of samurai's if you dont pan to commercially use it. Jimmy overbuilds things alot. He's changed a few things since these pics were taken. For most of his hard piping he uses 1/2 inch black pipe. It saves alot of cash for some of the long lines that dont have to be flexible. With the smaller samurai axles a man could possibly run a loader off a low horse engine like a vw or a 16 horse Kohler. Ill try to take some digital photos of the machine and some measurements this week after work
