Re: Friend痴 9-year old daughter in surgery after stray dog attack.

Sigarms,it's unlikely your values and beliefs could be swayed here in a few paragraphs but if you find yourself facing peer judgement for a crime in the USA,I advise against using "bad things happen to good people"as a defense. Christians spent centuries tempering their criminal law with God's law and the vast majority approve of the product. There are groups that share your view but I doupt they fail to recconize a wide margin of human responsability between the tree and dog doing harm.

Can you please explain where you assume that I feel "bad ***** happens to good people" as a defense for not being able to control your own actions if those actions harms other innocent people?

Re: Friend痴 9-year old daughter in surgery after stray dog attack.

The links you provided, if you look, you'll find a story of a innocent child being killed by pure dumb luck of being in the wrong spot at the wrong time, with no one to blame. Apologies for not explaining that.

How many people here, on a "country forum" do you suppose

1 - Other than "working dogs" protecting livestock, actually supervise their dogs when their dogs are outside all the time OR have
them secure in a fenced in area?
2 - Have their dogs spayed or neutered?
3 - Have their dogs rabies and all other vaccinations up to date?
4 - Have their dogs on heatworm preventive medication?

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people here can't answer yes to all 4 questions above.

And yes, I completely agree with you that it's too bad we can't discipline owners. I'm guessing the only way you can do it is by civil action if someone gets hurt.

I am one who can answer yes to all of the above. I will add that if my dog or any of my other animals ever bit anybody it would be the last thing that they would ever do unless he was protecting somebody, the last which is very unlikely. I believe in personal responsibility, including the animals which I keep.

This one's a little older, but at least it shows some owners are being held responsible:

Hopkinsville dog surrender

A mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service was airlifted to a Nashville hospital with severe injuries following a dog bite Monday morning while on her route in Hopkinsville.

Several agencies, including the Hopkinsville Fire Department, Hopkinsville Police Department and Animal Control, responded around 11:30 a.m. to the scene on Jessup Avenue for a reported dog bite.

Captain Michael Pendleton with the Hopkinsville Fire Department told News 2 that the mail carrier was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center for treatment.

Debra Alexander, the 54-year-old owner of the dog, was charged with harboring a vicious animal, Hopkinsville police said.

According to an arrest citation, the dog “viciously attacked“ the mail carrier and “it took two people to fight and remove the dog from the victim.“

Officials: Mail carrier severely injured in Hopkinsville dog attack

Yes to all 4. With any dog I've owned. They are either secured in the fenced in yard or on a leash. Current with all vaccinations, on heart worm meds. And spayed or neutered unless we plan to breed.

I think your gonna find that there's quite a few people on here that can answer yes to all 4 and are responsible pet owners.

Prayers go out to the girl in the OP. And then we had a wild deviation into the sovereignty of God. Wow.

But ,this post brings me more to weigh the opinions of friends that think ALL Pit Bulls should be put down vs. friends that love rescued Pit Bulls. I've read/heard more than one story about Pit Bulls being raised by loving, responsible pet owners... and then one day snap and attack/kill innocents (often kids) for no reason. I really can't see which is right.

Do YOU believe that if you're killed by "an act of God", that God was fine with letting you die for a reason? If the answer is yes, why does God kill innocent people that have nothing to do with him?

Boy, 8, died '''instantaneously and painlessly''' after being hit by falling gravestone in cemetery

Girl Killed By Falling Tombstone | Personal Injury Lawyers

All those killed above are children. Why would God kill Children?
The same thing happened about 10 years ago a mile from my house.

A 100+ year old headstone that was 10" square and 3' tall fell over on a 3 year old girl and killed her.

They took down all the similar one laid them down on the ground.

yes. and one of them is a slim 120 lb Anatolian, bred to seek out things that will harm his flock. he has us and the chickens to defend and does it with gusto. 5 ft. no climb woven wire horse fence, and i would not want to challenge him to get out of it.

 . . . so true, I can check yes on all 4, and even at my dog's advanced age (12 Aussie) he is still a working dog/cattle.
