I just went through the same process and I found a deal on a low hr machine I could not pass up. I got my jd2040 with 1300hrs for 4500. I also found a freshly rebuilt mf135 diesel with disk for 3700. Right now on Craigslist there is a 3000 ford diesel for 3000$ in Jonesboro Arkansas. If your looking for bigger there is a really nice jd3010 completely rebuilt for 6800$. Good luck, there are some great deals out there and it is a buyers market!

Thanks everyone. This has all been very useful in my search and has led me in yet another direction. Haha. What has happened is I am in a time crunch to get something (at least for getting the grass/weeds cut down). And I just found out that a relative has an old NAA in great shape with snow blade, finish mower, and bush hog at a really good price... so good in fact that I have decided to purchase it AND now that I can be more patient with my search find another tractor with the "great to have" features that you have all provided me with. Once I do find that gem I will then give my NAA to my father so he no longer has to mow 5 acres with a garden tractor, and he can clear the snow from his driveway. Dont feel that all your breath was wasted though, because I really am in search of what you have led me in the direction of....diesel, live pto, FEL, 12V. I also feel based on feedback that I should spend some time getting to know the other Makes, as I am limiting myself a bit. I have been looking on Craigslist for a while and havent really found all that in the price range I am willing to spend, but maybe now that it is getting colder something will pop up? :/ I am in central Ohio and the Fords are abundant, so I figured safety in numbers (of people familiar with them) might help me out, but have found since joining this forum that there are enough knowledgable people willing to help a guy out that I can expand my search. Again, THANKs very much for all your help. I will post pictures when I get it to my place ;)

One suggestion, if someone hasn't already done so, add an in-line fuel filter and keep a spare(s).

NAA are fun.. I have one.. does alot of work.

if you have any issues post, PM or email. Old fords from 55-64 are my favorite, but the 53-54 are so close they fall right in.

!YUCK!

that's horrible advice.

a NAA came stock from the manufacturer with 3 filters. one atop the sed bowl, one IN the sed bowl, and one in the elbow to the carb.. not to mention the sed bowl itself grabs heavy particles and water.. thus thats 3 screens and a trap.

add to that the NAA has a metal fuel line.. adding in a filter usually means cutting the line and unioning in with a rubber hose... not a great deal there.

add to that it's a gravity feed system. many inline fuel fitlers are made for a 4 psi fuel pump.. not gravity feed ( YES.. you can find gravity feed compatible filters.. but IMHO.. they are not needed if the other 3 screens and the TRAP are in place. )

if the tank is dirty.. CLEAN it.. don't keep grafting on filter after filter to solve a problem already solved from the factory..... :(

Well excuse the **** out of me.

My brother started out as a Ford tractor mechanic and has put them on all three Fords he maintains and it has worked for him.

I'm done with this site for a while; good grief!

putting a filter inline in a system with multiple others means the others are not in place or the tank needs cleaning!!!

doing otherwise is a bandaid.

if I was a mechanic I'd be ashamed I had to graft on filter after filter to keep my stuff running.

exception would be to get it off the side of the road and get home.. then toy fix correctly.....

I'd like to add that if nobody has seen a tractor on fire.. they can google the video's on youtube..

gas tractors with metal lines that run near manifolds become fire hazards when you scab in some rubber hose and a fuel filter.

rubber hose and manifolds don't mix.

it's thankfully a bit rare.. but fires do happen. I see a few a year on the old tractor forums I surf.

nothing like burning down a field, your barn or favorite tractor because you didn't take the 15 minutes to service yer fuel screens, or the time to clean a tank vs splicing in a rubber fire hazard and then just watching the flames :( heard plenty of bad stories like that.. too many..
