i bet in the end this guy will wish he had read is contract with gm because it states that you are oblegated to perform warenty work on any gm product unless it happens to be something special built such as milatery or special goverment vehicles.regardless of where it was bought.

I guess this could be the end of their leaving messages that might end up on the tube.

The other perspective is to get the customer in the door, do great work, and try to steal them away for the next sale.

Assuming the call is true, GM should say to Mr. Winkler "if it's convenient for you to not provide service to our customers, it it should be convenient for you to sell a different brand"

GM recently announced 2011 was their most profitable year ever w/ $7.6 Billion net income...

I sure hope Kubota stands behind their brand if I ever have to go to a different dealer to get some service.

BTW, the service dept is what helps dealers through hard times, and they don't just do warranty work.

Yep and the service department makes profit by selling extras. I just had them try to sell me a brake job "your rear brakes need new rotors and pads".

Really!? I drive like there is an egg under my feet and I doubt the car has had 5 hard stops in its life. 35 thousand on the clock, all that I put there in 6 years, and they are telling me Ford brakes are so ****** they wear out in that kind of service?

I had them checked at Les Schwab tire (major NW dealer who do tires, brakes, front ends, etc.

"Your rotors and pads are fine. Most that would be done is to give a minor turning to clear off some light corrosion".

In my GM warranty book it says I have to take my truck to the dealer I bought it from for warranty work UNLESS I am more than 50 miles away from home, then I can take it to any dealer close to me.

So this dealer has a legal leg to stand on. But I think there should be an easy way for dealers to service each others customers without upsetting the apple cart.

I didn't hear him limit himself to warranty work...but after that bit of coercion he'd be the last guy I'd ever call for any type of "service".

Yep, kind of silly of him to exclude all work on the car. That is what keeps the doors open when sales slow down.

From the youtube comments:

"We're very disappointed to hear this recording. The comments made are in direct contradiction to our policy regarding servicing of GM vehicles, which insists that dealers provide warranty service on same-make (e.g. Buick, GMC, Chevrolet or Cadillac) vehicles -- regardless of the location of purchase. "Building on what Tom Henderson (TH) said... According to J.D. Power's Sales Satisfaction Study, Buick, GMC and Chevrolet were ranked in the top 5 by customers for satisfaction with the sales process.

We take serving our customers seriously and will investigate this incident and will take appropriate steps to ensure that it is not repeated in the future.

'would hope this is not typical marketing bs, and that they "insist" by actually enforcing some consequences...

"Your rotors and pads are fine. Most that would be done is to give a minor turning to clear off some light corrosion".

Time for a Couple of cents that'll save you a few dollars?

Your brakes really should have a good workout from time to time to keep them in good condition. If you have ABS it's recommended to actually make it work a few times a year.

That light corrosion shouldn't occur if you get yourself up to speed and bring yourself to as hard a stop as possible once a month or so. While this sounds like it'd wear things out, it's nothing compared to what rough and rusty disks do to pads.

I make sure my missus does this every now and then: it has also had the effect of teaching her exactly how hard the car CAN be stopped... not a bad thing. :)

Also not a bad idea to do in the winter (in a safe place) after the first snowfall or two to remind yourself how it feels to lose traction and where the point just before that happens is.

It's Obama's Government Motors. What do you expect? I expect incompetence, extortion, threats, bullying and arrogance.
