Tractor
JD 2025R, previously Gravely 5650 & JD 4010 & JD 1025R
We got stuck behind a tractor going up the road apparently to Barracks Farm (where the hessian POW camp was back in 1775). It had a back hoe in front. Probably used the same hydraulics as the FEL. One would just swing the front of the tractor to make it go side to side.

It was an older JD. Have no idea what model. Had a big bush hog on the 3ph.

Did it look anything like this? What a Rube Goldberg!

I once had a problem with the septic system on a rental property we own and the guy I called came out with a Bobcat skid steer with the hoe on the front. He dug up the problem line going to the leach field with no problem. I could have never been able to do it with my B7800 Kubota and hoe, even if the hoe was on the front. Right machine for every job.

But this is like one of those swiss army knives with the Grapple, Forks and Backhoe right there ready for use. lol

Either a front hoe or just the machine is an excavator. Helps with a lot of tash!

I have never seen that before. Seems like a very practical setup. If you pick up a rock in your excavation work for instance, you aren't bounded by the arc of the hoe, or don't have to reposition a tractor.

IF the tractor is equipped with a front 3-pt. hitch-----then you can use any attachment on either end of the tractor, including a 3-pt. backhoe!

My God! A loader is bad enough. HOW can you possibley use a hoe blind?

It is not as bad as you would think. After all, the loader is up in the air, so you are looking under where the traditional bucket would be. And it beats digging with a hand shovel. And if you only use it a few times a year for small projects the price beats a backhoe and subframe by a long shot.

Might be ok with a camera. I use a camera to help get my forks positioned.
Wow, cool but I am amazed on what people will do to make an antique tractor design work for them (rear seat-front engine). I tried a rear engine articulated tractor and hardly use my old tractors anymore.

A tractor is pretty good for tractor work. It’s a terrible loader platform.

It wouldn't have a finesse of a backhoe, but you could ballpark with it, and stand up when you need to for a better view.
