Front diverter valve on L5740, work with regen?

/ Front diverter valve on L5740, work with regen? #21
Grands have a 4 stage curl/cump valve. Going from far left to far right... Curl, stop, regen dump, power dump. Economy machines only have a 3 stage valve & lack power dump. So going far right will make a Grand valve running a cylinder on a diverter run "correctly". Regardless of it being a single acting or double acting cylinder. But not with a valve on an economy machine. Those won't ever run a pair of single acting cylinders (well it will, but only in 1 direction).

I used mine briefly with a snowplow with 2 single acting cylinders, and it worked fine. Still does on the Grand L3130 that I sold with it to a friend. Both the old and new Grand L's work fine on the grapple with a double acting cyl for the lid, and I never push it to regen mode. Always the first stop. This is why I don't understand the problems some say they have with this???

1 notch over is regen mode. All the way over (2 notches I guess) is power dump, at least on current Grands.

Regen dump sends full hydraulic pressure to both ends of a cylinder. As the but end has more surface area than the rod end (because the rod takes up a lot of that surface) it overpowers the rod end & extends. Regen dump goes faster at the expense of power. But due to the nature of dumping a bucket you aren't fighting gravity so power isn't an issue. Keeping both ends of the cylinder pressurized means as the bucket tips over it can't suck in air through worn seals (causing floppy bucket syndrome).

A double acting cylinder on a grapple should work OK with regen. It will extend faster with less power, but otherwise work. With 2 opposed single acting cylinders like on truck snow plows, things go badly. When regen puts full pressure to both cylinders that are equal sized, neither can overpower the other, so nothing happens. It won't break anything, you just need to keep moving the stick over to the power dump notch (assuming your machine has it).
