Yanmar 1500D
MY 1500D does not have anything covering the rotating front driveshaft. Is this model supposed to have a tube around that shaft or is it supposed to be exposed? Also, relating to my 1500D. Can anyone tell me what motor oil to use in this model? This is my first diesel and books have not arrived yet.

Hi Marty,
Congrats on your first yanmar. Yes your drive shaft is supposed to have a box like tube to protect the rotating shaft from winding weeds, arms, ect around it.
Also I use chevron delo 400 oil in my yanmar,
and a phram filter# ph3593A.
There are lots of folks on this forum that have 1500s
Im sure they can answer all your questions anytime,
except when they are out on their machines or drinking beer !!

My 186d didn't have the shield, either. You can bet it does, now! I destroyed the front differential seal with weeds wrapping around the propeller shaft... I tried to rig something, but quickly went for the Yanmar Part, glad I did...

My 165/165d manual indicates it should have a drive shaft cover... I actually own a 1401d(closest to a 165d) and have no cover. Anyone else with a 1401d have a cover? If so, where'd ya get it?
thanks a lot!

The 1401D's do indeed come with a cover as you suspected. I think that West Kentucky Tractor is parting one out, not sure though. Try them at 270-462-2191.

Help! Anyone out there have a 1401d(or similar) with a driveshaft cover? I've corresponded with a dealer on the site who can supply me with the front support housing, the rubber boot, and the two shaft cover pieces. I found a photo in my service manual with a picture of the boot and the covers but not the front support housing. I'm wondering if I already have the housing because it appears there is little or no room to mount a housing between what appears to be the diff. housing and the joint first joint of the driveshaft!
Hmmm.../w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif
thanks for any help!

I have two of them (1401d's) here right now. Post a picture of the area in question, if you can. I will try to take a pic before the sun goes down tomorrow, if I get home in time.

Tony, your 1401D doesn't need support housing.Boot will attach directly to diff. housing.Support housing ,or extension, was used on 1300D because of slightly longer wheelbase.
