i have 7 acres too, and still no place to put the snow! and i hate plows on trucks, too much damage to my gravel driveway and lawn.

w/ the blower, i can keep it high for awhile and build up a good hardpack, then lower it down. minimal damage to the stone or lawn. and no piles.

Snowplows have the same exact shoes that your blower does, so an adjustment will have the same results. Thats what they are there for.

not exactly. until the ground is frozen, NONE of them do anything. it's easier (for me and apparently the ppl that have plowed for me) to keep the blower up off the ground a bit until it IS frozen.

1st time this year w/ the blower, i set it down and went, figuring the wide skids i made would float it...it sunk.

I experienced the same thing, the plow required that I keep my speed up or I would lose traction when the push got heavy, this would cause the plow to dig in whenever I hit a bump. With the snow blower I could go slower and adjust the height of the blower as needed, I still got a touch of dirt sometimes but it was way less then the plow.

Ya, I have 7 acres tho, and don't have the time to spend on the blower.

It's not about how much land you have, I have a lot more than you but I have drainage ditches along my driveway. My friends with plows call me up for help when we get big snows here. Besides I have this aversion to pushing half my driveway off my driveway before it freezes. Before I got the blower I used to have people come over with plows, guess what? They couldn't do it. A couple of them even gave up. A downhill slope into a county route. Where do you push the snow? What knock down my animal fencing?

The ground freezes here WAY before we get snow, so frost is a non-issue in our cold climate. We already have almost 2 feet of frost in the ground and there is 15 inches of snow insulating it.
Guys will be driving their cars on the lakes this weekend I'm sure, so its a whole different climate.
Skid shoes on anything ride on the frost, so thats y plows work so good here. It was -26 F AIR TEMP a couple nights ago, and with the wind, I hate to guess what the wind chill might have been.

i'm near buffalo, ny....we had fair temps until late november, then got a heavy, wet snow. it was still mud underneath. what a mess. and with the snow on top, it freezes even slower.

We've had single digits for the last couple of weeks but the ground isn't frozen. I dug a 4 foot deep hole yesterday and the frost wasn't much below the surface.
I'm not a big fan of the cold. I did a run today because it was in the high 20's, any colder than that I get on the treadmill!

Well I used to live in Hawaii. I won't say it wasn't a paradise back them (late 60's) and fighting the elements sure made life easier but I went back in the early 90's and the place was a mess. Too many people for me! I thought about moving south but everyone is doing that it seems and as much as I don't like the cold I like chiggers, ticks, copperheads etc. a lot less. I have a friend who works with quarter horses, he went to Kentucky, walked into a field and he and his wife got covered with ticks. Not for me, we're in the gardens all summer long without a tick or chiggers.

Short answer... I'll live with the cold, no crowds, a lot fewer bugs, good land and soil and not a neighbor in sight.
