Front Tire Chains

   / Front Tire Chains #11
I put chains on the front many years ago after draining the rear tires of fluid. Been happy sailing since...now I can always self recover and go nimbly into areas that were off limits before.

About chain width yeah that's important but they do stretch over time. Now there creeping up the sidewall but I keep 'em tight tight...if I hear them they get attention asap. Always carry spare monkey links and tire straps.

....In 4WD slipping tires can cause stress on the front axle to the point of breaking something.

I've read similar statements to this one over the years on this forum, but do not recall anyone ever reporting that chains caused damage to their front axle or drive train. Is there anyone here who has had an axle and/or drive problem caused by using chains? I guess I'm just curious, as I've used chains for over 30 years on different makes of tractors and have never had any issues.
