Front Wheel Brakes?

   / Front Wheel Brakes? #21
I always have the pedals locked together unless I expect to be in very slick conditions. It isn't so important for our CUTs, at least as most people use them, but the pedals should always be locked when traveling on a road. Back in the day, on the farm, I saw several bad accidents, usually on hills, when a foot slipped and only applied one brake.

Locked together is fine... If the brakes apply evenly. Dads mf135 didnt, had to push left pedal harder than right, so an even stop was difficult. Got good as rolling my foot while straddling the pedals to get even application.

Most "new" tractors with fwa/4x4 automatically engage the front axle when both brake pedals are pushed to give 4 wheel braking. Requires electric 4x4 engagement and brake light circuit. Most Kubotas have manual engagement of the front axle.

Brake pedals stay unlocked here, EXCEPT on the Kubota (4x4) I've never HAD to use the separate braking action on it when in 2wd since the ig tires on front have traction to turn, plus the turning brakes don't work in 4x4!

The 2wd tractors, especially 2wd loader tractor, brakes are necessary to steer! Front end slides in snow and mud otherwise.

You can do the "stop the spinning tire" with your brakes if you don't have diff lock.

I don't want anything to do with electric 4x4 engagement. Glad my tractor has a manual engagement. I wish my truck had manual engagement. As for the brakes I keep them locked except when needed. The parking brake only locks the left wheel otherwise.

My tractor runs an open Diff in 4wd and the split brake still work. Once you lock the diff the split brakes are useless. I'm not sure if my tractor will automatically lock the diff or not. I think it does which was why I said the brakes won't work very far.

I have had to steer with the turning brakes, seems like the front tires didn't have traction. :D

Nice! Never had the front end off the ground on this one, drove 2wds on the rear tires plenty.
