Frontier coupon - what can I buy?

JDGreen227 must admit I did not do a comparsion since there is not a Woods dealer near me. Plus I have learned a lot in the past 2 years since purchasing my 5210. I did call 4 JD dealers the prices where as much as $300 apart. I am guessing there would not have been a big difference, since a LandPride was only $550 cheaper and the metal was not as thick, plus the gearbox was not rated for a tractor that had 45 HP at the PTO.

it looks like a Woods PRD6000 or PRD7200, we sell them for 2500-2800 depending on the model, chain shielding, tire options, etc. They are great mowers.

you could take your $100, throw it away, and save more money by just buying the attachment from the company who actually makes it. I always get a kick out of Frontier because most of it is just other companies implements painted green and doubled in price.

I don't think that is Always the case. I think there are certainly some rebadged items where it is worthwile to check out the mfg and try to get otherwise and save some $'s (food plot, planters, etc) But another value not mentioned is that it can be a whole lot easier to go to an established Deere dealer for warranty and parts rather than possibly a tougher route of a direct seller or shortline only dealer, etc. Just my 2 c's

The OEM is typicaly still responsible for stocking the parts and the selling vendor just passes the orders along while pocketing a profit. In this senerio, its highly unlikly that Deere is stocking Woods parts. They are just a pass through for getting to the OEM. There is nothing that they can do on a corporate level that Woods does not already do. Now the same theme that you'll find reguarding having a good dealer who can support what they sell absolutly applies and you're right that a good established dealer is much more capable than a little shortline shop maybe... but what your buying is support from that dealer, Deere themselves is nothing but a middleman and the corporation brings nothing to the equasion but higher costs.

An interesting experiment would be for someone to lookup the parts for that frontier mower on the Deere website, and do the same on messicks.com for a PRD6000 (we have Woods catalogs... few others do) and then compare the prices of something like a gearbox.

All right I will bite on this one, but for the GM1072R/PDR7200:

John Deere 5WP1008199KT BLADE KIT, HIGH SUCTION 25 IN $89.44 Out of stock
messicks.com 1001511KT $62.48 In stock

John Deere 5WP18879 V-BELT $65.67 Out of stock
messicks.com 18879 1 Deck V-Belt W112 $59.80 In stock

Does anyone know where online to get Frontier manuals for free?

I have been very happy with the mower.

My thread was hijacked!!!

The problem to me is that there's always a way to "spin" the conversation - I was told to throw out my coupon, but if I followed that advise, I'd spend $500 more for a 54" rear-mount snowblower. This is because the Frontier rear-mount blower's $400 less than the Kubota (which is just a repainted RAD blower) before the discount coupon. Even though I own a Kubota B2920, I know that I have to be suspicious of a Deere competitor telling me that Deere stuff's overpriced...

I am also confident that examples can be pulled from any tractor manufacturer where an aftermarket product is repainted/rebadged/relabeled in the name of the manufacturer. This is true whether it's Deere, Kubota, New Holland or Jimna. To me, this isn't a new concept. It's also not a new concept to pay less from the supplier directly - and that "premium" manufacturers will sell that same part for more and with a little diligence, the customer can save money by either getting it from the supplier directly, or going to the more "value-packed" brand's dealer.

I'll give an example: if I had to replace the map light switch on my Audi, the parts department would probably charge me $50. The identical switch on the Lamborghini Gallardo probably costs that owner $200. And the identical switch on the Bugatti Veyron probably costs that owner $500. Same part. Same supplier. Different profit margins.

I still don't know what my Frontier coupon can be used for, though...

Your not missing that I'm telling you not to buy a Kubota blower right?! What I'm saying is buy stuff from companies that actually build it. I don't care who that is. Meteor, Agrotrend, Provonost, Erskine, Red Devil, etc all build good quality equipment that you don't need to pay an extra middleman to buy.

Yea, sorry... can you tell I'm a bit passionate about this. I see the impact that contracted manufacturing has on this business, and its not good for anyone but the middlemen who leverage their names to skim some profit off a business they have no real part in.

I was being a bit facetious when I said it was hijacked - I don't care about that, as these threads more often than not turn into a conversation. I did get your point about avoiding both Kubota and Deere and going to the source. Thanks.

Things have gotten worse... I'm now struggling altogether with the rear-mount idea and need to spend some more time just backing up my tractor and seeing how my neck does. I may be into a front mount yet!

Does anyone have a sense of what the current 54"-60" forward-facing Erskines are going for? Both rear mount and front mount (with the rear PTO drive). I can't find a dealer anywhere in Vermont.
