I agree 110%.

Put diesel in your fuel tank nothing more. Buy good winter fuel for winter. It has been -21 here this winter and I致e had no problem with my tractor. Winter fuel is already cut and ready for your localized temps, no need to put more crap in it!

Been quite a few people not that lucky, I blend my own fuel in my bulk tanks, I have a winter and a summer tank, the winter tank is blended #2 and #1 about 50/50 with the standard dose of Powerserve, when we got the cold weather this winter it got an additional dose into the tank when I fueled up. This is about the same procedure that most of my neighbors do and all the farmers do, do have one neighbor that didn't helped tow and push his tractor into a shop where he could warm it up and fight with it. So you all do what you want but quite often diesel will need to have additives and or dilution.
One more thing there is no way I would carry 5 gallon cans from town to fill my tractors.

I run a township road grader. Usually I blend the storage tank for Winter use just as you do. That's been the most dependable and easiest. Only time I am not completely satisfied is if I get a hard pushing snow. I can feel the power loss with the blended fuel. But it's considerably more powerful than the machine with a gelled tank of fuel.

Around here........suburbia KC KS.....the very busy stations say #2 diesel year 'round. The times that I have asked an attendant about the #1 change over, he didn't have a clue if there is a change over. Maybe very rural and more urban folks are treated differently around here....or around the country for that matter.

And, the home owner, small acreage users (5 gallon folks) have a problem turning over (storage) the fuel based on what the season brings. Most of their other "chore" are quite variable I'd imagine.

You should use any additive as prescribed on the container.

Many farmers I know use Howes.

i had trouble the firstyear i owned my diesel. since then use the antigel. however - still cannot start it even with a magnetic heater installed and plugged in for days. so i am stuck as to good or bad to use stuff. it doesn;t seem to help me get it started when i need it for snow. so -

i se major league big time diesel earth moving equipment sit parked for days in cold and overnight etc. starts up in the morning and they do not use any heaters that i know of so go figure.

I don't know technically why some engines start easily, some do not.

I was visiting with a friend of mine about purchasing a CAT backhoe. He asked me what model it was and I told him. He said "don't walk away, run away". Said he used to have one. If the temps were in the teens or below it would take half a day to get it started. Was so bad they would leave it idling all night so they could work the next day. Said he put two engine block heaters on it and still was hard to start. :confused3:

When I was working the oilfield, we used weed burners to apply heat on the oil pan. Plus a touch of starting fluid when cranking them over. They would never start without the heat.

just give it a little sniff it will start
