fuel additives

   / fuel additives #11
Not any more. Used to run additives and/or premium diesel in the very early days but came to realize that, just as lube oil needs no help with additives, neither does the fuel.

Tens of thousands of gallons burned without additives...no problems, either.

Power Service in every tank of diesel fuel is the only additive I use in my Kubota. When I had the Ford 8N I would add a little Marvel Mystery Oil to every tank of gasoline. I don't know if it helped the tractor as much as it helped my mind thinking I was doing the engine some good.

I do know that Power Service is supposed to help keep the fuel delievery sytem cleaner and help with getting rid of water in the fuel, which is a good thing.

I wonder if the cleaner burning diesel fuels that are coming will require some attitive for the older diesel engines like unleaded gasoline did for older gas engines?

Ok, I'll bite, what the heck is "premium diesel" ?!

Premium diesel usually has a higher cetane rating than regular diesel. Sometimes it has additives. My distributor sells dyed premium diesel as his off-road offering. Cetane ratings for premium diesel are usually in the uipper 40's (47-49).

You could have saved yourself some money by adding mineral spirits, which is the primary ingredient in MMO. If I recall correctly, 98% of MMO is mineral spirits.

Mineral spirits? Yes... it has some. 98% not even close.
