Do you guys with CT450 go through alot of fuel? My machines seems to drink it like no tomorrow. I have a backhoe setup so i know the machines weights more to move around, But Im going through 4-gallon every 2 hours it seems. That is running almost full throttle and driving around and stopping and using backhoe. I do run an additive every few fill up's and don't know if that can kill the mpg. Also i have no fuel in the oil so its burning it up. Any idea's or is that normal?

Not a 450, but my 235 burns pretty much a gallon an hour.

The Daedong 4B243 has a published SFC (specific fuel consumption) of 192 g/hp-hr @ 2600 rpm.

That equates to 3.04 gal per hour when producing 50 hp @ 2600.

A consumption of 2 gallons per hour would represent an average engine output of 33 hp @ 2600 rpm.

My 225 @ 27 hp burns between .5 & .75 gl/hr. Usually running 2000 - 2300 rpm. but engine seldom if ever lugs and no BH to carry around. I am always working in low range, mid-range for getting from point A to B on the place or occasionly with rotary cutter in easy mowing conditions (high range works only for getting down the road). You have almost twice the HP as mine, probaboy work it harder so seems your fuel consumption is in line. Regrettably as the EPA continues to tighten up on exhaust emmisons the fuel consumption rate on these engines keeps climbing. Don't know why but the cleaner the fuel burn the more fuel engine consumes. Go figure!!!

Yup the EPA will kill diesel's off. I have a 2002 duramax which i use to pull my machine around. I will never give it up since it has no emission on it. Thats also why they get the best fuel MPG out of the duramax generation.

Agree that the government regulations to improve exhaust emissions continue to increase fuel consumption.

There needs to be a balance between the two.

Hopefully those that vote will someday demand politicians show the business case between all things. In this case, the further improvement in exhaust emissions vs the cost of equipment and the operating expenses we pay.

Do you have the SFC for the CT235?
Appreciate any help here.

My Kubota B3200 goes through roughly a gallon an hour at around 1800 RPMS with the BH attached.

my CT440 goes thru about a gallon an hour running hard and brush hogging. yours seems to be a bit excessive to me.

Attached is the engine performance curve for the 3A165 engine.

The SFC is 195g/hp-hr @ 2600

Your peak output of 34 hp @ 2600 would consume 2.1 gph, ironically right about where the OP is averaging with his CT450.

It looks like some of the information I saved from last year's tractor shopping might be useful after all.

I have only been on this site for just under a year so I am not familiar with all the aspects of attachments. I can't seem to find the attachment. Can you help out a newbie on this? Thanks for you help.

Look at the bottom of Milkman's last post. It says Attached files then gives the file name. These should show up in blue color, just click on it to open. If you do not have Adobe .pdf file reader active on your computer it won't work, but you can download a free file reader if need be at <www.adobe.com>.

HK45, I have been reading through these and think some. Thinking too often gets me in trouble, but what the hey

Just wondering if you might want to check injection timing. Do you see any light or grayish smoke when first stated cold. Just thinking off top of head, if the timing was too far retarded, it could some cause extra fuel consumption especially when working it hard. Too far retarded would also give you more smoke at cold start up. Just a thought!

Here is a lnk to an authoritative answer to the original question.

The University of Nebraska Test Lab observed the CT450 using 2.87 gal per hour while developing 38.89 pto hp at 540 pto rpm with an engine speed of 2493 rpm.

Observed fuel consumption varied with load from 1.22 - 2.90 gal per hour at full engine speed.

Any chance they did the same for the CT335? Just curious

No test for the CT335. That is the model I have also.

The CT450 is the only Bobcat tractor they have a test report for. No Kioti tractors are listed either. The manufacturers have to send UN a tractor in order for it to be tested. Its nice to see at least one of the Bobcat tractors tested. It gives third party validation to horsepower and 3 pt lift performance claims.

This isn't the Nebraska test but perhaps the attached engine performance data and calculation data from the Kioti service manual may help. I added the conversion for g/HP-hr to l/HP-hr.

The manual also has data for the DK40/45/50 which I did not include because of this site's 1 MB limit for .pdf's. Let me know if it is required and I can scan the pages.

Cheers

On my CT450 for 3 hours moving hay and repairing drive with box blade and fuel needle barely moved.

The reason why I asked...Bought my 335 March 31st this year, have 110 hours on it so far...Brush hogging, moving feed, firewood, dirt, cleaning out barns, etc. And the tractor used about 1 gallon/hour under load, after break-in. I bought it new, but was a 2009 model, so it sat on the dealer's lot for 2 years. At about 90 hours, when the tractor runs for about 90 minutes or so "working" like brush hogging, it just flat out dies with no warning. IT is not vapor lock, and the only remedy was to switch to Air, bleed the fuel system for 30 seconds, and then you are good to go for the rest of the day. Outside temps play no factor in this.. happens at 90, happens at 60. Called the dealer, new injection pump was put on the next day, and now I have a completely different tractor. It seems to have about twice the power as before and uses about 1/3 of the fuel it used to, even under full loads "working".But the 90 minute shut down issue is still there. The fuel usage now is more in line and slightly less than the published data supplied, so I am thinking the 2 years on the dealers lot did something within the fuel system.
