FUEL FILLING FIASCO

   / FUEL FILLING FIASCO #11
I bought 2 5-gallon diesel containers from Lowe's. The nozzle has a spring loaded end on it. Nothing comes out unless the outside sheath of the nozzel is depressed. When you turn the can over to pour there is a plastic clip which rests on the edge of the fuel tank filler cap. The weight of the can and diesel keeps it depressed. As soon as you let up on it the fuel stops flowing. No spills since diesel doesn't flow until the end of the nozzle is in the gas tank. I will, however, invest in a bigger fuel storage tank sooner or later.

The tank is 5.8 gallons. I use two 2.5 gallon Blitz-style plastic jugs. Those aren't bad to hold over the inlet. That's enough for 10-12 tach hours.

A question on my fire insurance renewal was "any fuel stored onsite?" I answered no and since then, purchased fuel goes right into the tractor.

There have been several complaints with these no spill cans.
Also you can't use one to pour into MR Funnel.

What kind of complaints? So far they have been OK for me. Should I be watching for something?

I use this type of no spill can as well. Not a single problem as far as fuel spillage is concerned. I'm with RobA: Is there some other issue with these cans to look out for??

I use this Han-D-Pump from TSC. Harbor Freight sells the same one for about 3 bucks more.

I'm with you Thom. I don't want to go all the way to my red dye diesel dealer with 2 or 3 - 5 gallon Blitz cans. I roll my 30 gallon Handy into the truck, fill it up and it fills my tractor up 3 times and repeat the process. The crank takes 200 turns to fill up an empty tank. My right arm does the cranking while the left holds the hose. I don't notice any difference in muscle size on either arm. I crank it backwards and it sucks whatever fuel is in the hose back into the tank. It works, my back appreciates it and it is conveniant. I suppose a 12 volt powered pump would make it easier but I'm already soft enough.

No kidding, we've got six hard working diesels to fuel up and that gets old real quick with cans......

I used to stick a piece of clear tubing on the end of the nozzle to extend it. The 6 gal plastic can rested on the loader arm the whole time I was filling and when done, I rocked it back and caught any drip with the fuel cap. It seemed like a simple solution at the time.
Sure is easier now with my 150 gal tank, especially when I'm still using the diesel I paid $1.45 for last summer. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
