Anybody know if you can get a fuel filter, and "O" rings from a parts house rather than the Kubota house for an L235 diesel tractor..

I don't know about the L235 for sure but I'd say probably so. I have a B7300 and I get WIX filters from Hi-Lo/Oreilly. All the parts store will have a filter cross reference guide and a lot of them will have a master catalog with a listing of everything their filters fit. If you can get a part number off the filter it would be best. If not, call around and tell them what make tractor you have and they should be able to handle it from there. We have a master WIX catalog at work and it clearly listed all the numbers for my model Kubota and they were all the right ones.
