JD 2520
I am having one heck of a time removing the fuel filter on my JD 2520. Has anyone had similar issue and any suggestions on what I should do? Obviously I don't want to screw something else up in the process.

Trying to interpret what the problem is.
What are you trying that isn't working? Access? Tight screws? ??

Access is not the issue it is loosening the filter. It is on so tight I can't break it free.

(edit: as Roy points out in following post, yours is likely the compact 2520, so follow his advice. Just have something to counter hold when getting a wrench on the large knurled plastic nut)

Are you removing the bolt that runs up through the filter?
Don't think it is a spin-on filter, but may be mistaken.

The OP's machine is a compact, not the old row crop tractor.

IF it's the compact, this is the procedure:

Cleaning Sediment Bowl and Replacing Fuel Filter

1. Move the fuel shut-off valve (A) to the closed position.
2. Position drain pan under fuel filter sediment bowl (B).
3. Turn locking collar (C) counterclockwise to remove bowl.
4. Remove and discard the fuel filter.
5. Clean bowl.
6. Install new filter to filter head.
7. Install sediment bowl and locking collar.
8. Open fuel shut-off valve.
NOTE: Fuel system is self bleeding.
9. Crank engine to bleed fuel system.

Is it the locking collar giving you problems?
If so, are you trying to turn it by hand, or are you using a wrench? If you're using just your hand, I suggest you try a strap wrench (on the locking collar) for better leverage.

Piedmont, are you talking about the spin on filter, or the sediment filter?

I had the same problem with my spin on when I did my 50 hour. I just used a very large set of channel lock pliers. That,or a strap wrench may work.:)

The spin on filter. I have had the channel locks on it but was afrasid to lean on it to hard because I was afriad I was going to bend something.

Had the same issue on my 2305, used a strap wrench and came off without damage. Follow RoyJackson's advice.

I'd think it will come loose before anything bends or breaks. Put a little elbow grease to 'er ,but just be careful.

We are not talking about the sediment bowl filter. It's the spin on which is above the sediment bowl filter.:)
