Oil & Fuel Fuel FIlters

My BX2200 has 170 hours and is 3 years old and I have not changed the fuel filters. I have done all other maint to the "T", and even have the filters, but just haven't done it. The tractor is stored inside. Seems like a waste to change them too often, may even be worse. From what I have been reading on this board they seem to collect moisture and that is why many have changed them. I can't image that they are that dirty. I was thinking of changing them at 200 hours. What are others doing??

funny... the reason I opened this post is that I had the same psuedo-concern. I just flipped a hundred hours and have not done mine yet either. I use a fine screen funnel to take out large impurities and water. I figure next summer maybe I'll do them. (there's more than one isn't there?). Just seems like it will be a pain in the ...

The fuel filters are positioned so they are easy to look in to see if you do have moisture building up in the bottom on most all Kubota tractors. It will start to look milky, water is heavier then fuel so it will go to the bottom. At three years I would say it would be time to change them. The filters normally do not all of a sudden stop working unless they get a good burst of water. They will slowly start Zapping the power away from the fuel starvation one horsepower at a time! You might never even notice the loss as it will be so gradual. I do recommend everyone to have a spare set on a shelf for that time when water gets in or more entertaining and frustrating, gas is accidentally added.

Yes there are two the secondary is is easy to get to but the primary on the BX2200 is positioned so that You have to have the mmm deck off to change it.

It would have been nice if Kubota would have put a fuel shutoff inline from the tank to the primary filter ,but they didn't .



The clamp for the primary is awkward to loosen as well.
So Yes it is slightly mess to change them .
Seems like they run $8.75 each from Kubota.

put a piece of fuel line hose over each jaw of your needle nose vice grips and then clamp the rubber line to shut off the fuel flow. Works well and doesn't damage the rubber line. While you have it shut off, install a shutoff for the next time.... Junkman

Junkman, I suppose you wouldn't shut that off more than once as an additional security device and forget to turn it back open before you start it, right?

I don't think that if you put an in-line valve in the fuel system that it in any way could invalidate the warranty any more than adding a rear light and strapping it onto the ROPS with duct tape or installing a tiny tach sensor module around the fuel line. The modification would have to effect the engine more directly before there would be any negative consequences.

Maybe so ,but I am not a gambler....I have seen some pretty weird things happen ............. besides all it takes is one excuse if the wrong person is in the wrong mood.
