thanks, i did check out your links and are appreciative you took the time to post them, however iam reasonably sure thats not my issue as the gauge is always showing full scale even when the ignition is off. this would suggest an issue with the needle mechanism itself.

any issues with the resistance or sender faults would result in incorrect scale or no needle movement at all, as well as the needle returning to empty on accessory shut-off.

iam thinking i may have possibly subjected the needle to full 12 volts when i had to remove the dash to repair the shuttle linkage recently as it was working fine before this, possibly by removing a grounding leg of a voltage divider that would scale the needle. iam pretty sure iam going to need to crack open the dash to free it up. just looking for some other experiences to confirm this.
