When I was looking at new cars earlier this year, diesel was 50 cents cheaper than regular unleaded.

That has to be a mistake. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I live in Ohio also and diesel has never been 50 cents cheaper than 87 octane gasoline.
I have not priced Off-Road diesel,,, is that what you are talking about???

Around May or June, diesel was $1.649 and regular unleaded was 2.139 at the Speedway station at State Route 44 and Interstate 76.

Here's a couple of other interesting numbers that stick in my head--

I bought my Chevette diesel in December 2001 and diesel was consistently $1.099 at most gas stations in this area for a couple of months following that.

In the summer of 1998, I paid $0.679 for regular unleaded at a Fuel Mart outside of Akron. I remember telling my wife that it was really 20-something cents a gallon, once you took out the state, federal, and local taxes. That sure didn't last long...
We were paying $2.049 at one point the following summer! Diesel was about 50 cents a gallon cheaper then too, because I commented to my wife that diesel would never reach that high because the truckers wouldn't let it get that high, before starting to retailiate (slow-downs, etc).

I just do not remember diesel being that much cheaper than gas this year. I even asked my wife who fills up the vehicle (diesel) the most if she remembered diesel being that much lower.

I do remember what you are saying about 1998.

Andy,
The price increase of diesel is due to more diesel vehicles being sold, to put it simply it is the law of supply and demand. The oil companies have all of the supply and can demand what they want. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I fueled up at a BP tonight with regular unleaded for $1.569. It was nice to fill the tank for LESS than 20 dollars for a change.
Diesel was $1.999 there as well.

Just got back from a short trip to northern Arkansas. Prices in eastern Oklahoma were by far the cheapest. Regular was in low $1.60s, diesel in upper $1.60s. Cheapest I saw at a name brand station was $1.56 for regular and $1.62 for diesel. Arkansas was in mid to upper $1.70s for regular and upper $1.90s for diesel. About the same in Texas.
