Floating in the same boat as you. Econo box vehicle for necessary trips (40 mpg) and the 4 wheel drive land yacht (Suburban) in the garage. Nice thing about our insurance carrier is I can put full coverage on a vehicle only when I need it, otherwise it's on storage at 50 bucks a year. Basically, the burb is for bad snow days when we need to get somewhere, 4wd tank. I can get 22 out of it if I drive conservatively but no comparison to the 40 I get out of my 14 Focus and reality, other than the accident protection mass, the Focus is just as comfortable to rid in as the Burb is and certainly more comfortable than the 350 Ford head rattler.

Do the same with the farm truck, a 350 Ford diesel, in storage 9 months of the year with 3 on full coverage when I need it for farm duties.

We don't make unnecessary trips either. Actually, my big fuel expense is farm diesel and second would be gas for the lawn mowers. Farm diesel is a business expense (I write it off). Only the lawn equipment fuel isn't and I mow 3 rentals plus my own, so I mow about 7 acres total.

I did cut fuel usage drastically for 2 years so on average it might be a wash depending on how long.

Some policy makers are ecstatic because higher gas prices are essential in the plan to shift away.

Gas and toll prices hurt the working poor the most.
I paid 4.69 in Central PA yesterday for Plus, cheapest I can get it around here is $4:15

This is going to drive up prices for everything as the work and delivery trucks fill up.
Once we stop buying from R, it will go up more, that extra I don't mind, it's the current "inflation" price that I mind.

I was talking to someone yesterday, on third Tesla due to problems, wonder how much that cost the environment?

Environmentalist gang? No I’m a practical land manager, a professional forester who produces a renewable product (wood). I do know enough about ecology to realize that polluting our soil and water isn’t sustainable long term. Foresters are trained to think long term. Most people don’t care about the future. I do.

So air doesn't pass over borders?

Maybe consider living in California?

Most everyone I know does not intentionally try to pollute. But most environmentalists I know are bigger hypocrites than the rest of the people I know.

They get on jets. They crank up their vehicles. Their EV cars are plugged into fossil fuel/nuclear plants. They overlook the lithium mines while they condemn the coal mines. They overlook forest fires and volcanic episodes for causing huge dirty air problems. They contribute to lobby for their agenda. The list they overlook is long and tawdry....

Since we are especially now realizing how strategic fossil fuels are, maybe the gov't could work on a multi-pronged method to ease transition.

Last year in our Feb deep freeze, it was a blessing to have a fireplace (my home is all electric) when the power went out. It was the only way to keep my family warm.

This is now a “crisis” For a majority of the population.
Like I said before. This is going to hurt, but huge changes are coming. I think the cavalry is getting saddled up. People wont stand for this. Even for a few months.

It's an election year, so I expect some intervention. Heck, even Mr EV himself says that we need to start producing oil, as the link you provided yesterday shows.

diesel is 4.99 as of yesterday here, and 4.22 for gas. Rving is going to suck this year. Time to get the motorcycle out, upwards of 60 on it

Got you beat. My 650 KLR gets 70+ depending on how far I twist the handgrip.... The RV industry just took a massive sucker punch. No one in their right mind (unless they were extremely flush) would buy a fuel sucking land yacht, to go 'Glamping' in.

The auto makers are also going to take a sucker punch as well. The big push (was) for land yachts and big pickup trucks, not fuel efficient cars so they just got caught with their drawers down as well.

I too have an RV but it's a truck camper and it's kept inside in the big barn when not in use. 7 years old and just like new. They last forever when kept inside and unlike a gas guzzler single purpose RV, the camper goes in the farm truck bed for trips and comes out when not.

It was the only way to keep my family warm.

Fireplaces are very inefficient heaters. Most of the heat goes up the flue unless the fireplace has been retrofitted with conservation measures. Myself, I want the majority of the heat produced to be used as heat, not propelling hydrocarbons up the chimmney.

Well one thing is for sure….it’ll be a great time to buy a big gas guzzling truck from right about now until as long as fuel prices stay high.

Won't happen in our lifetime. The infrastructure won't support it.
