So, we want to abolish petroleum but still mandate minimum storage levels ?

Minimum levels of stored fuel would make a great reserve if we went to war on our ground, being able to fuel our war machine. I never considered the reserves being held to help the American people, but apparently it is a great way of controlling elections.

I'm a little vague on the specifics but I read that the govt depleted the NW oil reserve recently, releasing the oil to the public market in an effort to reduce rising prices. This reserve was created to avoid a fuel shortage after a hurricane evacuation depleted all local supplies leaving motorists stranded. Not sure of the year.
So the reserve was created to insure the people had enough fuel to evacuate in the event of a national emergency but it was depleted to make the govt look like they were lowering prices. Now it is gone. Fuel reserves are at their lowest levels in 4 decades.(wikipedia)

Maybe they think we won't need fuel to evacuate a national disaster. Everybody will just plug in their cars and then go, I'm sure that will work :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Especially the National Guard's "plug-in" trucks, planes, and helicopters!

The stupidity of our government leaders is mind-boggling.

I normally stay out of these discussions, although I recalled hearing not all of the SPR release ended up in the US.

A quick Google search resulted in a 2022 report by Factcheck.org:
(Not sure, and don't really care which way they lean). They also mention a separate Reuters report as confirmation...

Bottom line: the release was an amateur attempt, poorly planned and executed, with no meaningful benefit in the US supply or price reduction...but highly successful in making the US less resilient.

U.S. Selling Oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to the Highest Bidding Companies

By D'Angelo Gore

Posted on July 14, 2022

Q: Is the Biden administration selling crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to other countries?

A: The oil is sold to eligible companies that make the highest offers. Some of the companies are U.S. subsidiaries of foreign companies, and some that purchased oil have then exported a portion to buyers overseas. Exports increase the global supply and still help with U.S. gas prices, experts told us.

FULL QUESTION

Did Biden sell oil from our Strategic Oil Reserve to China and other countries in 2022?

FULL ANSWER

The Biden administration is trying to increase the global supply of crude oil and reduce gasoline prices by tapping the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve – the federally owned stock of emergency crude oil. About 1 million barrels of crude oil from the reserve are being made available each day for sale to the highest bidding company. Some of the companies have then chosen to export some of the oil to countries around the world, including China.

In a July 5 article, Reuters reported: “More than 5 million barrels of oil that were part of a historic U.S. emergency reserves release to lower domestic fuel prices were exported to Europe and Asia last month, according to data and sources, even as U.S. gasoline and diesel prices hit record highs.”

Refiners around the world use crude oil to make gasoline and other fuels.

The article, which also said that the “export of crude and fuel is blunting the impact” of President Joe Biden’s moves “to lower record pump prices,” has prompted several readers to ask FactCheck.org about the sales.

The article I referred to isn’t about the strategic reserve. It’s about mandating the California fuel storage farms increasing their capacity.
To me, funniest part is, by the time Shell,Mobil (etal) could get engineering done, permits issued and construction complete how many years of usage would they actually get before Ca’s ban on ice in 2035 happens?
Hilarious how many think that unicorns and fairy dust can make things actually happen.
