Oil & Fuel fuel tank

Wonderfully said /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I too will take the little quirks here and there in the use of this tractor that I admire. However, fuel measurement is important and the problem that was earlier discussed was not a type of fuel level adjustment factor. Just below the filler neck is a notice of fuel accuracy and run times for the tractor. There is a diffrence between liquid seeking its own level do to vehicle position and reading empty at half full. For those who may operate equipment and fill their tanks regularly at 45 degree angles I would have to agree totally. Truly, I will take empty on the guage at half full over half full on the guage at empty anytime /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. The split tanks on the tractors are wonderful and depending on the grade that you are on DURING re-fueling there probably shouldn't be more than a gallon diffrence anyway. And as for "I would suspect that the rest of the line has the same characteristic." doesnt always make it right. Oh, it might be "normal" for a 100k engines/ pumps/ or whatever to have manufacturer defects, but the purchasers are entitled to have it corrected /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. And as far as experience, I'll look at my guage first before I stick the tank. Experience has shown me in the past to stick the tank of a tractor that was 30 years old only after the guage didn't work. Anyway, with the price of fuel these days I try to operate all of my equipment/ cars/ trucks upside down, then my guages always show full and I never have to re-fuel /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif. Thanks, take care.

Well I noticed the same thing. My theory is that when you work on slopes, the gas goes back and forth between the tanks. If it flows into the one with the sender it reads full, then flows back into the other one and goes down. I dunno.

Well I finally ran my 3510 out of fuel today while mowing. The fuel gauge had read empty for just a couple of hours, so my recalibration of the sender seems to be working OK. Carried 5 gallons out to it and it started right back up like a gas engine! My fuel gauge, however, then showed a comletely full tank (after just 5 gallons?). I am thinking when I take it to the dealer for some other warranty work that I need to ask for a new unit. Anyone else had success replacing the original unit?

Even after bending the sending unit arm the fuel guage is still very sensitive to the "attitude" of the tractor as Snowridge says; especially on steeper hillsides. And the more I think about the configuration of the tanks and their separation. the more logical it seems that the fuel guage would give readings that are not true if the fuel is pooling on one side or the other due to the terrain. But when the tractor is on relatively level ground the readings are more accurate. Only time will tell if the sending unit itself needs replacing. Willie Jones

Well, mine needs replaced for sure.... It has read this way since I brought it home, and I park on a cement floor in the barn, and 95% of my work outdoors is on flat ground....It has always went to empty, and when I go to fill the tank, it will only take five gallons and it's full.... I've gone to sticking the tank after it says empy, and I can normally mow my field 2 more times before I have to put in fuel....I've almost got 40 hrs. on it now, so I'm just waiting till I take it to the dealer for the 50 hr. checkup, and have him replace it then... I've talked to him about it 2 or 3 times, but he hasn't called the factory yet, so I will call them myself, and see if they will send me or the dealer one for replacement.... I agree with the above, I don't mind sticking the tank, but don't feel that I should have to with this few hrs. on the meter....I love the tractor, and this is the only issue that I have with it, but I think it should be addressed.... I wouldn't put up with it in my new car, and feel that we shouldn't have to in our new tractors either....I'll post back here when I find out what the factory has to say....Brian
