( I averaged about .7 gallons per hour on a B2710 (27 engine and 20 PTO hp I believe). )

I'm running about the same with a B2910. 30 engine and 22 PTO hp.

what is the formula to figure it?is a gallon per hour is about normal for a machine that's 17 years old with 800 hours?useing to finish mow my lawn @ full throttle for 5 hours?

I don't have a formula, but my 25 PTO HP MF1235 hydst with a 1500cc engine running at 2500 RPM uses about 1 gal/hr mowing, loading or just running down the road at full speed.

Good morning
My 4310 uses about 3-4 litres of fuel an hour wide open.

I can honestly say about half of what my old 8N use to burn in gasoline. I never really figured it out. I think it is about a gallon an hour WOT.

Over 292.1 hours my New Holland TC25D has averaged .50 gal/hour.

The formula is:

fuel consumption = horsepower x specific fuel consumption x time

The only things you need to know are the horsepower being used and the specific fuel consumption of the engine, neither of which is readily available. You can make some estimates, though. Specific fuel consumption for diesels varies from a low of around .3 lb/hp-hr to around .4 lb/hp-hr.

Using both sfc figures, a 22 hp tractor running at 100% power would use:

lb/hr = 22 hp x .3 lb/hp-hr x 1 hour
= 6.6 lb/hr or roughly .9 gal/hr on the low side (#2=7.2lb/gal)

lb/hr = 22 x .4 x 1
= 8.8 lb/hr or roughly 1.2 gal/hr

The biggest unknown is how much power the engine is producing. Just because the engine is running its highest rpm doesn't mean it's producing full power. Still, it's useful to know these figures because they show max fuel consumption and if you're using a lot more than that, it lets you know something's wrong.

Hi, Ive got a 3520 branson and run on average 1800 rpm and burn a half gallon an hour. Ive not really abused it yet but Im sure that cosumtion will go up as I tax or overload it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here's a web site: http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/farmmgt/05006.pdf for tractor fuel consumption. According to it, my 4010 would use up to 0.8 gallons/hr. In actuality, it used a little less than 5 gallons the first 9.7 hours but wasn't full throttle much of that time.

According to this web site, my 12 hp Gravely should use about 0.8 gallon/hour. That's probably about right, but it has a small tank and is difficult to keep track of its consumption.
