Full synthetic oil at 20 hours?

/ Full synthetic oil at 20 hours? #11
I'm running Amsoil 15w-40 in mine.

It routinely gets -40F in winter here.

Some winters it will go for a month or more and the high will not warm up to "above" -20F at all.

I would recommend a block heater, plus add an additional stick on pad heater to the lower side of the oil pan sump, and another stick on pad heater to the lower side of the trans sump.

Don't put the stick on pads directly on the bottom of the sump, or you'll end up dragging them off.

I live in the Talkeetna area of Alaska. Temps will routinely get down to -20 or even -30 at night but -40 is rare.
My 4520r is going to be outside (need to order the block heater dang it...)
I am willing to listen to your opinion.
Thank you :

Just my :2cents: you've been givin great advice on the oil and block heater concerns IMO , but since your goin to be leavin your tractor outside in that corner of the world here's a little fact you might not be aware of .

Good advice here from most everyone. Going with synthetic at 20hrs is not going to cause your rings not to seat. Engines made 50 years ago, maybe???

FWIW (possibly not much), my 2016 3520H was bought new from Dave's Tractor in Red Bluff, CA and came with an engine block heater.

Are we sure they are not standard? It was not on the invoice.

You should consider going to Amsoil 5W-40.

I switched to Amsoil hydraulic fluid and engine oil at 30 hours. No ill effects. Mine also came with a block heater. I have a battery wrap heater. It seems to help.

Mine was not standard. Bought it in Oklahoma.

Front gear oil is SAE 90 per service manual
I still have three quarts of Amsoil Severe Gear 75w90 (pour point is -58f) left from changing f150 and NVP this past spring,
Think I will change that out too. Need a total of 1.85 gallons.
