Fun Phonetic Alphabet quiz.

I bet those fellas at Rorke's Drift will remember the Zulu's.

Don't I know it... I do try to give a brief history lesson (the school's today don't even touch on the Zulu Wars), but mostly I try to use a single picture/pictograph to relate. In this case a Zulu shield... but even that requires an explanation.

Foxtrot and Tango, being dance steps, typically get a laugh.

I got the last three wrong and guessed on the sugar one. Pretty cool quiz. Thought I would get them all right. LoL

The Brits at the battle of Rork's Drift found out that there were some flaws with the Martini's in that when they become hot and fouled with the old black powder residue of the day that the iron heads would pull off of their stuck in the chamber cartridges when they tried to extract them. Whoops, dig out the pocket knife and try to clear that stoppage with hundreds of Zulu warriors descending on you !

I think foxtrot messes up peoples mind on the other end of the phone more than others.

Foxtrot 7 turns on Caret Browsing! WTH? As in Wiskey, Tango, Hotel. Sounds like a pretty fun and comprehensive date! Trouble is, I can't dance, so will have to forgo the Tango.

It iritates me when people use made up phonetics. And it annoys people like call center operators when I use proper phonetic alphabet.

I used to do morse in my head whenever I would see a license plate. I barely got my code as I never got good at receiving.

I spent 21 years in AF using that alphabet almost daily so I got all the current ones. Lost almost every morse one and a few of the old ones. I used to know the morse code poorly thought as I occasionally ran into it in my work

I instruct at our local Navy (Sea) Cadets and one of the subjects is the NATO Phonetic Alphabet. I could simply teach it straight as A = Alpha, B = Bravo, etc... but that doesn't get the point across, memory-wise, so I try to relate the letters to something.

I'm getting old as they have no inkling of what a Sierra is, who Charlie Chaplin was or Delta. There is an Aussie singer named Delta Goodrem, so I have them remember that. Zulu confuses them even after explaining that they're an African tribe/nation.

Often, they'll come up with their own memory-cues.

Training new police dispatchers, I wouild have them study it overnight and then make them spell out the newspaper headlines the next shift. rarely had to have them do it twice. Of course that would miss the more rarely used ones, I covveed that by a few tests.

Some of our younger ones pronounce Z as zee which causes much confusion, I attribute most of this to a sesame st education.
There is a popular suburban pub called the Enzed which has an over representation of Kiwis, the former group cannot relate the name.
