Fuse cover door on JD 4300

Um, nothing apparent yet. The door doesn't come off completely, so no chance of having it upside down, etc. I sure wish you could see it! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I'll go back out and mess with it some more. I think this is an I.Q. test, and I'm flunking it! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

More when I learn more.... this is so weird.. John Deere stuff doesn't just mess up this way, in my limited experience. Who would have thought that this would be my biggest problem of ownership of a new compact diesel??! LOL!

I'll try. I've never posted pics before, so I'll see if I can get a couple of polaroid shots to come out and scan them in. Yes, this is crude technology.. we are looking into a digital camera soon, but the budget just took a hit from the tractor. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Here goes! I hope these are clear enough. Two shots, one fully open, and one half shut with the latch in the up position as it would be when open.

Not having a Deere to go look at, I have a question...

It looks as if there's a black plastic fascia around the fuse block. Is that what the fuse cover door snaps into or does the door snap into the fuse block itself?

Is the fascia separate from the fuse block?

What I'm getting at is, if the fascia moved and thus changing its relative position to a fixed position fuse block, this could be causing the problem. Geez, did that make any sense at all? /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

It was so simple, I can't believe it. The handle that pulls up and down is actually part of a bolt, and it goes through a hold in the door. On the other side of the door, there is a sleeve of rubber, and a NUT which can turned to adjust how far the lock extends and how much it compresses the rubber sleeve. It wasn't obvious that it was a nut, it looked like a solid piece of steel with no adjustment. Sigh... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for all the thoughts, folks.. I've got it perfect now!

On to the next project.. the throttle is too loose, so I have popped off the instrument panel and have to find a small wrench so I can get at the tension adjustment. That should be tedious but not too difficult.

I really appreciate all the feedback and help I've gotten here. I'm determined to learn enough about this stuff to begin contributing help to others. It might take a while though. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

For what it's worth, I got lucky.. my wife's car and my car both have toolkits.. and both had a 13mm open end wrench.. which turned out to be just what I needed to adjust that throttle tension device. I have some skinned knuckles, but also a sense of accomplishment. Seems a fair tradeoff.

You'll soon be having fun of this sort.. and we'll all be around to help you out.. just as the others here have been so kind in helping me out.

Can't wait to hear about your new machine, when you get it!
