I used cattle panels instead of rebar in my last pour. Was over 12 years ago and no cracks anywhere.

Most likely not the most cost effective solution - but I would go with a welded hardware cloth wire ( something like a 2x2 welded wire mesh

Chain link stuff will roll into itself - and you will basically be losing all the qualities (openings) that you are using it for in the first place. In my opinion, something welded open that will keep its shape and form will be your best bet - but again - much more expensive.
