I'm guessing anyone who thinks $650 is too much for a reconditioned Yanmar tiller has never shopped for a new one OF THE SAME QUALITY.

Yanmar tillers used to be cheap because the dealers received more than they could sell - one with every Yanmar imported because the tiller had been on that tractor since new and the salvage yards really needed to move them out.
Times have changed, Japanese tillers are seldom imported, and anyone buying one now is paying a price competitive with a US tiller.
I paid $200 for the most faded RS1400 on the lot. With a full set of genuine replacement tines. It works fine. Deals like this don't exist any more and in fact that importer is no longer in business.
$650 today is still a fair price, not excessive.

I agree with the last two, not to much. Tillers here in East Texas never sell for less than $500, one of any worth will be closer to a $1000, many times more than that. I bought my RS1300 for $500 3 years ago but it was a lucky find.
The Yanmar tiller I priced when I was looking a year ago was $800 plus freight so after thinking it over I ended up with a new KK2 6' locally but that was $1700.
I bet the Yanmar would have been a good investment even @ half of new now I look back.
fwtw I use a turning plow in fall and then in spring I run a disc over it to break up the chunks and then I till and then run a middle buster to make lister rows where I irrigate and then I seed it with an earthway seeder on top of the ridges it makes and that all works real slick.
I plant the taters in the bottom of the ditch so I can pull dirt down on them as they grow.
