Yup. Even way up here in northern MI, Good Friday is potato planting day.

Having one of your granddaughters to help? Priceless.

I can assure you that planting potatoes is a darn sight easier than harvesting them. Grubbing potatoes can be hard work during the summer's heat. My wife and grandson planted potatoes about 3 weeks ago here, and we already have plants up about 4" tall. The next thing will be pullin' dirt in around the plants and then get ready to fight the potato beetles. It's always sumthin'.

harvesting is not bad a potatoe plow make it alot easier they sell for $75 to $125 well worth it i put pvc pipe @the end of esch row in the middle of the row so when the vines die i can tell where to plow

I agree on using the potato plow (middle buster). Still, one has to pick up 500-600 potatioes, one at a time, bending over. It is what it is. Still, what garden is complete without potatoes? :D

We won't be plating anything for another 2-3 weeks. Here's a picture of a late November harvest. Those potatoes were not planted until the first of July.

Most years I plant a few rows of potatoes and carrots Canada Day weekend (July 1st). The nice thing about planting these last few rows so late is most of the spring/summer weeds are done and you can harvest very late in the fall or even after the first snow. Some years we even harvest the last of the carrots in March. Spring carrots are very sweet.

Potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, peas, squash planted March 30, 5 rows corn, bush beans and cucumbers planted today. Probably small to some of you but it's the biggest garden I've ever put out, hope I can keep up with it. I have two gardens, this is a pic of the larger garden.
