Garden tractor or small utility tractor?

In the long run, you would probably be better off buying a clean used CUT. It may take some looking, but they are out there. I looked for a year, and finally two years ago, I found a 1998 John Deere 4X4 CUT with 239 hours, with a Front end loader, box scraper and a really old set of discs for $11,250.

(You mentioned an enclosed trailer. A CUT will not fit inside an enclosed trailer).

A diesel will use half the fuel of an equivalent HP gasoline engine, will out last the gasoline engine and will amaze you with how much work it can do.

The power-trac looks interesting, but with only a 5' lift height, you wouldn't be able to load even a 2-3 yard dump truck with it which will seriously limit your clean up ability. Even if you don't own a dump truck now, in the future, you might want to get a 350/450 sized dump truck instead of a pick up.

If you buy minimum in size and capacity, you will limit the jobs you can bid on in the future. A CUT will hold it's resale value better than any gasoline or even diesel Garden Tractor.

I've found that with my 25 HP diesel CUT (20 at the PTO), I run out of traction, even with 4 wheel drive, before I run out of power. My Deere weighs about 3,700 lbs with a FEL, and bush hog and me in the seat.

The down size of the CUT is you will need a bigger truch and trailer to haul it than a GT, but the work you accomplish (in less time) will be far greater, especially for a professional vs a homeowner, and should increase your hourly profit margin.

Since it's for your business, Uncle Sam will help pay for it through the depreciation, etc so I would recommmend you look long term and get a CUT diesel (new if you can, used if not) that will handle current and hopefully long term future needs.

Their are just as many if not more tasks that could be completed with the larger machines that the smaller sub compact size machine will just not be able to handle.

define, to yourself, what you need for your business. There is not a machine in the world that can do all the tasks an owner needs. What you are trying to do is find the machine that can do the most for you and your business. Evaluate your job requests that are most profitable to you then look for a machine. Try not to make the business fit the machine vs the machine fit the business

How many people on here do tilling as a service? Ive done it as part of landscaping jobs but never just that as the service. Im just wondering if i could get jobs to help use the machine more often than " a few times". I looked at a few today. Looks like my eye is looking for much more than i was prepared to spend/finance. The john deere 2520 model is little but i think could do everything. YET for not a whole lot more i could start with another 6hp, direct injection deisel vs not direct injection, a machine thats twice as heavy almost and capable of some larger equipment. Ill see what else i dig up. The local dealer seemed very pleasant and showed me many things.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't go far enough into the web page that KentT showed.

I still would rather have an equivalent hp diesel over the gasoline. The Web page didn't specify the engine, but I'm guessing it's a V-twin of around 35 - 40 cu in such as a Kohler or Briggs. The typical 25 hp diesel is a three cylinder with around 60 - 80 cu in. like a Kubota or Yanmar as used in the Deere. The more efficient trouble free diesel with twice the compression will last twice as long at least and use half the fuel. Using off road diesel will eliminate most of the differential between the cost of gas and diesel.

Thank you again for the correction.

I use an 18' car hauler with steel deck to haul my PT425 behind our 3/4 ton van. A pickup would do just fine. You can unload it with ease:

There's no reason you can't do it in reverse. I've done it. Take the PT out to our property, dig up two yards of black dirt, load it onto the front of the trailer from the sides and by driving up the ramps. Then load the tractor at the rear of the trailer and tow all 4000 pounds of dirt and the tractor home.

Here's a link to a picture of our tractor and most of the attachments that we have.

Here's a link to my web page with about 25 short videos of the PT425 in action(click on the Videos link on the page). My favorite is the Quick Change Challenge video where I disconnect and drop my pallet forks, back away, drive over to my small bucket with teeth, attach it to the tractor and drive in a grand total of 15 seconds without ever getting off the tractor. This is the feature that a professional landscaper will love. The ability to take multiple attachments to a job site and switch to any of them, including powered units like augers, tillers and mowers in less than one minute, with ease. It makes the unit able to run circles around other units and get more work done in less time with less people. Period. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Clever solution to the 425 lift height issue. Actually better than that because you can load and unload your trailer while most tractor FELs can only load a pickup.

And, for those of us who like to check out your videos periodically, how about posting some new ones. You must have learned some new tricks in the past year or two with the PT. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Simplicity also offers $800 off which isn't much considering the amount,

$800 off would still have left Simplicity about $3000 more than my BX23

My heart is set on one of these, a 27hp, gas or diesel Simplicity Garden tractor, I'm somewhat limited on space.

Have you checked the prices of these out against the prices for the Kubota BXs and the MF GCs?
When I did my price shopping simplicity was thousands of dollars more than what I paid for my Kubota BX 23.
