Garlic from China. What gives?

you just have to shop around. I went to h depot to get a 50' air hose for my auto roll up air supply unit. all their crap was China.

So i went to my local hydraulic hose repair shop, and he made me one with USA made hose and USA made fittings...for $10.00 LESS than Home depot's Chinese made crap.

And it will be a cold day in H*** before i step thru the door of a Spralmart.

Yea.....I try to use local folks and their products as much as possible. I am willing to shop local even if it costs me a little more. Our nearest Walmart is about 30 miles away.......I don't shop there. They just announced an expansion of their grocery area. I am betting they will run 2 or 3 small stores out of business within a year. Really a shame!!!

Ok, so I went to a Costco today and happened upon some American garlic. Looked good, I bought it and that should be the end of the story. Then I came upon the pine nuts, an Italian staple and because of earlier comments was suspicious. Yup, from China. At least these come out of the woods somewhere so I felt a little better but this whole China syndrome thing is getting old.

What book were you reading? I have read about the garlic smell before the ChiComs attacked as well. I used to work with a guy who spend quite a bit of time in the middle of nowhere in the jungles in and likely around Viet Nam. He commented on being able to smell the enemy and assumed he could be smelled as well so his team changed their diet.

Later,
Dan

The book was " The Last Stand of Fox Company: A True Story of U.S. Marines In Combat". I really enjoyed the book and it is yet another example of why the military deserves our unending respect and gratitude. The things these guys went thru in combat are unbelievable.

Puke. We are doing it to ourselves. I found the statement below in the attached link. Kinda backfired.

Johl tore out 80 acres of cling peaches at his Yuba County ranch this season, part of a tree-pull program sponsored by the state peach board to reduce the supply of peaches and help bolster prices.

There are lots of guys in this thread railing against Chinese garlic... which is great. But how many of these same people have no issues buying other chinese product? Like tools from Harbor Freight or green welders from a certain section sponsor.

Ive been called lots of names for being against ALL chinese product, from bigot to racist to ..well you name it. Its more then a bit hypocritical to rant against chinese garlic, then go buy an everlast welder for example. Both are made with the same "slave" labour and buying either sends money to a repressive regime who very well could be our next enemy, not to mention undermining our own manufacturing sector.

If there is a US, Canadian, or European option I'll take it, even if it costs more.

Edit: Im not trying to be overly critical.. just something to make you think.

Scooby,

I also will not buy anything Chinese if there is an alternative. More often than not there is a non Chinese source for what you need if you look hard enough. Unless you go to Wally World.

Well stated. I agree. I bought a Reese Hitch for our SIL a little over a year ago. It was even made in "RED CHINA".
