Hey guys going to do some welding tomorrow for my new plow setup. I have a Lincoln pro mig 175. I don稚 remember what the gas setting should be. My tank is a argon mix.
Thanks, big chief

Around 20 on the flowmeter is what I run as well. If you're outside or near a door that gets occasional gusts you might want to up it a bit.

Ok thanks guys

20 is what I do as well with C25 gas. Just curious if this is true for other gases, Argon, Helium?

20 seems average but you can also keep turning it down until you get porosity and then just bump it up a tad. Larger wires and mill scale will need to be run a bit higher. Many of the robots I have worked worked with seem to be set at 35cfh. Add preflow and postflow and you are using up some serious gas.! Actually though you can run it as low as you can without getting porisity. I've done Tig in a controlled environment at 12cfh..

I've been running straight CO2 @ around 10 on my flowmeter for the last 30 years -seems fine unless I'm outside in the wind.

This is how I set mine, back off until porosity starts to show up then bump it up.
You can waste a lot of gas just going by settings.
I got a flow meter but it always used a lot more gas than my regulator.

I run as low as I can get by with. No sense in wasting gas /$$

20 works great. Thanks again.
It’s the prep work and the clean metal that is what really makes for good welds

I Agree..Truth be told, A Flow Gauge ( regulator ) is actually more accurate than a Flow Meter. I know I'll take heat for saying this but I'm a long time gas apparattus guy so I can take it. The best way to guage flow is at the end of the gun not at the tank. You can get a plastic flow tube from Binzel that slides over your nozzle and shows actual cfh at the tip. Gas is so over priced you need to conserve how ever you can.

Could you please post more detail on the Binzel or equivalent. My feeble google search left me scratching my head on what you are talking about.

If you ask your Local Welding Supply for one of the flow meters they can get it. Also ESAB has the same one. Not sure who would be the best cost. They are a little more beefy than the Amazon ones. Years back Victor had a J shaped one for testing PSI out at the torch on oxy-fuel cutting tables.

Or if you work where I do, you grab the welder and it's set for 35, nearly every time with the tip melted to the nozzle and slag covering the diffuser. We only weld inside, doors usually shut, and it's a free for all as far as who uses the welding equipment. The mentality is squeeze the trigger and wiggle it around. I usually run at 20. I'm not a welder by any means though.

I've run low in the cost cutting (cheap) mode before myself. Just never worked out well. You get that puff of wind or breeze from nowhere and a bead goes all fizzy and bubbly then you got to mark it and go back and grind it all out and redo it later. I struggle enough as it is getting a decent bead, don't need to add low flow to the list. ;).
