Gasoline Cost dropping

Same here in Southern Illinois. $1.10 for regular, $1.45 for diesel.

What grade of gas are we talkin about? 89 octane (good 'ol Iowa ethenol) is selling for about $1.13 here while 87 octane "regular" is $1.10

I always run ethenol except on long highway trips then I'll use the 91 octane "premium" @ $1.24. I grabbed the wrong handle this weekend and put in lower grade regular and my Taurus sounds like a diesel, can't understand why they even make this grade anymore.

Anyway, what octane do these prices reflect?

PitBull, I don't use anything but the 87 octane and never had a problem.

PitbullMidwest, I was refering to 87 octane gas. Actually some gas stations offer 87,89,91 at same price! Go figure!

Andrew, you have a way of putting it all in perspective. We have always been lucky (spoiled?) in the U.S. regarding fuel cost. I can remember in the '70s when I was in the US Navy seeing prices as high as $1.89 per liter in some remote locations. I've always felt very lucky ever since. If it were going to cost me $30 to drive round-trip to work and home, I probably wouldn't live in the country...or I'd find a gas-sipping compact to commute in instead of my Dodge Cummins Diesel./w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

I only use 87 octane also and I paid $0.99 this weekend here in Central KY. A friend of mine that is a pilot said that he thought Delta used 2% of all the oil in the US on a normal year. So multiply that by the other big airlines and the reduction of flights and yes there is a surplus of oil.
Hope it stays this low for a while.

Only run 87 octane myself, except for the generator, mower, chain saw and assorted small engines which get premium. The 87 has done me good, makes my little 4 banger knock a bit going uphill under load, but it hasn't hurt it in the last 320,000 miles...

I heard that home heating oil was expected to be high this winter due to a break down at a refinery. (It's ALWAYS a break down at the refinery, or a fire, or routine maintenance.) Since this is essentially diesel, I expect you won't see much drop at the pump, at least until spring.

JImI, I've never really looked into getting my own tank. Actually, hauling has been a little slow. For everybody, but it's been a double whammy for me. My biggest customer recently bought two trucks, so I'm just a helper truck for them now.

Cheapest around my way is $1.439 (87 octane)... That's good 'ole California for ya!

Also, I don't believe it is just the airline troubles that are causing the drop... The whole economy is down causing a drop in energy demands...
