Gator Blades for BX decks

I put them on a few weeks ago, $40 delivered from Jack's Small engine. Yes, you need bushings, my brother machined mine. PN# Gator 90987. Dramatic improvement in deck performance IMO. The stock blades have poor lift. I've mowed with a big Scag and then a Grasshopper, both are far superior dedicated mowers. The Gator's won't bring the BX up to that level, but it's much better and good for a general purpose machine.

Yes, in fact I just put mine on yesterday, after reading several posts on this forum. I can second upgw's findings, it's a big improvement, but still not as good as my old 48" walkbehind.

I made my bushings by buying a Cat 1 to Cat 2 adapter bushing. I believe they are 7/8 x 1 1/8. I used a hacksaw to cut off 3 separate approx. 1/4" rings to use as the bushings. I found that they were too tight to press into the blade, so I simply cut thru one edge of the ring so that it could easily compress into the blade. Pretty simple.

My bushings were also made from cat 1 to cat 2 bushings, used vise and they pressed in perfectly.

Hate to bring up old posts but wanted to comment on this one.
Useing the above mentioned cat1 to cat 2 bushings I also adapted a brand new set of gatorblades to the 60" MMM on my BX23 and their cut & performance far exceeded what I was getting from the stock blades.

I may retry the ole home made mulch plug again :D

WOW that is good performance! It looks like it sucked the leaves off that tree in the center of your yard:D

Not bad eh? :D :D

Actually most all of those leaves had fell on their own accord and the BX w/the afore mentioned gatorblades made mincemeat outta them :D :D

I just installed a set of gator mulching blades on my BX2200. 54" deck and they work great :D. I am very pleased with their performance. Even though these are the magnum mulcher's and are not supposed to lift the grass like the high lift blades, they do lift the grass rather well. I could definitely tell a difference. Because it was 7 days since I had last mowed, I left the bagger on to collect the grass. I was afraid that the grass would be too high to mulch. I usually empty the bagger 4 times with the regular blades on. Today I only emptied twice with the mulchers on. They really make a fine cut. Attached are several photos.
