I bought a set of three today and mowed with them. WOW what a difference, less deck strain no windrows and a great cut.

Did you get the mulching blades? I just received 2 sets of gator mulching blades for my finish mower. Hope they work well and last at least a year. The blades that came with my Landpride finish mower are about gone and this is only the second mowing season!

They have worked well on most of the mowers we have tried them on.
And I recommend them.

I have noticed if you mower tends to just cut the grass and lay it over, (meaning the clippings are long), then your deck may not have enough suction to keep the grass suspended. And, therefore it will not get recut into finer clippings, even with the mulching blades.

Ray,

Doesn't the type of blade dictate the amount of suction and not necessarily the deck? My original blades were a medium lift. I could buy a low or high lift as an alternative. I didn't want to buy the expensive dealer blades so I am trying the mulching blades as an alternative. I hope they have lower lift than those of a high lift blade.

I paid to much for them I'm sure, had to get them from New Holland dealer and the are a New Holland catalog product listed as Gator mulching blade.
Man do they mulch.

My experience has been most of the suction is in the design of the deck. I am sure you can vary it with the blades, and there are other factors like HP and blade speed. But, if the mower spits out very long clippings with regular blades, I have only seen it improve marginally with mulchers. Some might think the slight improvement is great. But, when these blades are working properly, they really give a fine chop.

You can buy blades in different lifts, when I had my landscaping company I always bought high lift. The deck design has to do with it, although all decks are designed to have enough lift. The problem normally occurs in decks when wet grass gets stuck to the underside of the mowing deck. It clogs the vacuum lanes and the neither the deck nor blades can then provide enough lift. If you are having problems with lift, make sure you check the underside of your deck. If grass is caked on, take a screwdriver or small paintscraper and get all the grass off, it will help immensely. Personally I never found the gator blades to be that big a help if I had a clean deck and was cutting grass that wasn't too long. If you are cutting grass that is too long it will help marginally to chop the pieces up a little finer so you don't have a pile of long pieces of grass leftover after cutting.

Made a post on this but I'll stick it in here as well - anyone have an idea on gator blades or other hi lift or mulching blades for the kubota 72" mid mount deck on the b3030?

I keep hoping that the gator mulching blade has a medium lift and not high lift. Maybe I should purposely allow some of the vanes to plug to prevent the sand from sandblasting and wearing the blades and underside of my deck...at least until I can get some good grass established. I found that mowparts also had the best prices for the type of blade I ordered.

I know what you mean. Don't know how much you mow, but I think high lift blades are impractical for big jobs. Moving air and cutting and re-cutting grass requires a lot of HP, and really taxes the tractor and the cutter's gearbox. The blades also wear out very quickly. High lift blades are great for yard work, but if you have acreage to mow, I find they're a headache.
