Gator HPX or Ranger

/ Gator HPX or Ranger #21
The RANGER is an unbelievable machine for off-road, rugged terrain. It is unstoppable machine. It is true 4WD...all 4 wheels get traction, ground clearance is over 11", independant suspension makes a soft ride over harsh washouts, full skid plate underneath...the whole underbody is designed to slide over obstacles and not to get hung up. 2" receiver for towing up to 1750lbs. It can traverse through streams and water up to 28" and seats 3 across. It will go where-ever an ATV can go as long as the trail is 60" wide. The bed is plastic and will not dent and can be tilted from either side with a release handle. I think most other UTVs are made for running around the farm or ranch, but the RANGER will take you anywhere you point it. I wanted an RTV bad and thought about the Mule...but when I checked out the RANGER, I knew it would be the best choice for my property needs. I have some rugged ledgestone and wet areas that requires ATV-like abilities...the RANGER fir the bill for me. No problems with it either! I would buy Polaris anyday...read the other forums...all the makes have their problems. Hats off to RTVs and Mules...great machines...pick one that meets your needs. RTVs have HST and power steering...Mules have belt drive. HST is nice and durable...expensive to fix if you have to fix it...the Mule and RANGER have belt drive...easy fix when it goes out...no big deal. No matter what you get, plan on extra $$$ for accessories.

TWO other things...as far as looks go, I think the HPX is the best looking UTV out there. I don't know much about it, but it sure looks good. Dealer support is critical. If you have a dealer close by who supports you and your machine whatever it may be, then that alone counts for something to consider. Nothing sucks more than having to wonder how to get your machine fixed or serviced if they are far away. My Kubota dealer for my L3830 is 100 miles away...I have to be patient for them to get to me as they are not in my area but every couple of weeks.

My RANGER 6X6....all 6 wheels get traction. It is a machine go anywhere and very hard working. Top speed 40 mph is real fast on the trails.

Me too, all six wheels get traction and I love the way it floats across my wet lawn without making ruts!

Gee, I don't know where you ever found an HPX Gator without suspension. Someone must have modified one because there were none ever built without suspension. Misinformation by 99. ;)

Dargo is correct, the traditional Gators did not have rear suspension but the new Gator HPX does have 4 wheel independent suspension.

'04 Ranger here. Use it in my wetland areas. Goes through the marsh and the water and the mud just fine. Only problem was a bad fuel pump that Polaris company wouldnt stand by which made me mad, even though same fuel pump was on a "recall" on the '05 models. Other than that, we really put this machine through the paces and it keeps on going. I also use it for pulling a Plotmaster Food Plot machine for those "hard to get to places" . It is amazing. I havent got any experience with the other models, but this one does the trick for me.

I just reread through this post and found that I never told what I got. I ended up with a hpx trail gator. Got it for $8100 with a rear hitch and financed it with my tractor. We have enjoyed it so far this summer. I hate to go back and price a top and windshield though. They wanted $275 for a bed liner. JC
