New Holland TC29D, 2001
As some of you remember I have been somewhat disapointed with my New Holland 914 MMM 72" It has been leaving streaks between the blades and also my front tires seem to knock the grass down and then the blade does not cut it. A few days later I have this 6" wide path when the grass decides to stand back up.

Well I decided it couldn't hurt to try a set of the Gator Blades offered through New Holland. Wow, I have this really nice groomed lawn now. I am really happy with the blades. I still have this really little streak at times but my dealer thinks I have a bearing possibly out on one of the spindles. I will take the belt off this winter and find out. But as far as the blades you can really tell the difference. The grass comes out very fine now as it chops it up much more and it has a pretty good lift so the grass that gets knocked down by my front wheels gets picked back up and mowed.

The only thing bad now is I really wished I had the 33 instead of the 29 because you can tell they suck more of the Horsepower out of the tractor. I do have to slow down mowing to prevent pulling the motor down.

But in all I am now a much happier camper.

The blade is a very heavy blade. With the curve on the back side you can tell there has to be some air movement as far as lifting the grass. Also the grass coming out of the mower is much finer. Like I said though you will have to slow down cause they do suck the Horsepower out of your tractor.

OK this is a really dumb question, but those upturned things on the top of the blades, are those for creating more suction to lift the grass or are they for cutting the grass into finer pieces while it swirls around under the deck?

I believe it is for both air flow and cutting the grass into smaller pieces. There definantly is a different sound coming from the mower now.

I haven't got the actual bill for them yet but was quoted $14.50 for each blade. At that price I even think I will buy another set when my dealer has 10% discount week-ends going. That way I can have on and one getting sharpened or ready to go.

My 84" came standard w/ the Gator blades.
Only problem is I run 4 blades and my dealer said $25 each.
I haven't been able to find them anywhere else.

Here is the Home Page for Gator Blade Gator Blade

They are a lot more expensive there than buying them from New Holland.

Do you have the part number for the blades? Both the NH number and Gator number?

Pretty big price difference.. between Murph's dealer and Tim's.. I'd buy a second set too at the $14.50 price! Spent all day Sat. mowing.. finally dry enough after Isabel.. glad I did.. cause it came down in buckets Sat. night. Thanks for the info on the $..

Bee,

I will get the part number for the 72" mower and if you wish I am sure I can get the 60" also. I will confirm the price also as the $#14.50 was what I was quoted. Also I did check with Gator and they don't have a part number nor will they sell one yet for the New Holland. Guess it is some agreement they have with New Holland, however Gators generic fits all was about $10.00 a blade more than New Holland.

Also another note, now that we are getting cooler weather I set my mower down a 1/2" to 3" and you should have seen the junk get lifted out of my grass. There is dead stuff all over half way out of the grass. I think with another mowing I will have my lawn de-thatched. Also when mowing the grass was coming out pretty fine and the wind was blowing it at least 20 feet away like in a dust storm. I think with time I am really going to like these blades.

Murph.........I have the same trouble with the grass popping back up as you had if I let it go too long between mowings. I asked my NH dealer about the gator blades and they quoted $24.50 per blade for the 72" mmm (941A). If you get them for the $14.50 Lets all get together and make a buy on them from your dealer before they catch on..........I'll gladly compensate you for your trouble plus shipping...........Let me know..........TOM.............I'd buy 2 complete sets and if bee wants some maybe we can split the shipping to ohio.

Count me in too.
Price the 84" blades and let me know.
Since I use 4 blades they are shorter than the 72" MMM.
I need 5 blades since the wife SOMEHOW bent one of the center blades down.
It is leaving a nice helicopter effect in the yard.

I finally got the invoice in the mail. She did charge me a bit more than what I was quoted. I called to tell them they charged me more and to get the price for the 60" and now I see I need to get the 84" also. They charged me for the 60's 15.92 each which still isn't bad on the fact I paid over $25.00 for the standard blades and if you try and order the Gator's from Gator you will spend over $25.00 also. Attached is a copy of the invoice and if a bunch of you want to get blades this company does not take Visa or Master Card but checks or cash only. They do let me charge.

The only person that knows the part numbers is the parts girl and she is on vacation this week.

Tom,

Looks like I messed that one up. The price $15.92 was for the 72" mower times three.

Hope that helps
