To expand/confirm points on this. Price is more than just the item and, by itself, isn't worth crying over. However, When a company makes it difficult to find a cross reference and I still need to drive 1 1/2 hours with the cost of fuel and drain on time for a non-optimally priced filter its that much more expensive and quite inconvenient besides. ...

For me, it's more about principal of the matter than the cost.

Philosophically it's an affront to modern progress and commerce. I don't put AC Delco filters on my Chevy truck... I use whatever my trusted service station has. I know I need 5w-30 semi synthetic motor oil for my truck that meets a listed set of standards cause my owners manual tells me so but my tractors manual only mentions their own brand of oil and doesn't list the standards required for non-AGCO oils. I'd use a Wix or Napa gold because I can visit countless auto parts locations before arriving to my MF dealership. Heck...I can go-to 3 Kubota dealers and 5 or 6 JD dealers and pay less before I come to my nearest MF dealership.

I would have to agree with this. I personally find it objectionable that I am unable to go online and order what I need and have it dropped at my house. Note, I am nearly 60 years old and I expect to be able to get anything I need from the comfort of my own home.

My dealer isn't even that far away and I find them an inconvenience. I went down to get shear bolts for my blower getting ready for winter. They are 15 minutes away. I spent more than 45 minutes waiting while they looked up the parts, told me that they didn't have as many in stock that I was looking for and sold me what they had. So that was more than an hour of my life wasted and add to that picking my jaw up off the ground when they told me the price (more that $7 for a bolt, holy crap). Just because there is a dealer near by does not make it convenient. After some research I found that I can get these for 35 cents each Metric tap bolts, Zinc plated class 8.8 steel, 8mm x 1.25mm x 55mm - Bolt Depot that's a markup of 2000% to go to the dealer.

There isn't any reason why in 2020, almost 2021, that parts and supplies for these tractors should not be easier to find and more readily available at a more reasonable price point.

I always stick with OEM when I can if its under warranty. If not then I go with as premium as I can find but sometimes the specs manufacturers have that you need to meet make it very hard. I do know that cheaper is never any good unless your talking cutting out the dealers 40% markup in their pricing. Then there is availability where you have an older tractor and manufacturer stopped stocking filters for it...then you can go with something else as long as its good quality and is the same thread and had the same flow.

Once you see these videos you will never trust dealership parts or any other source on how good any filter is.... Buy a filter use it and be happy it does not cause a failure...

My interest in their hydraulic filter is strictly for the convenience.

I mentioned in the previous thread about the NAPA hydraulic filter, it will not be substantially cheaper. That's not their thing. Wix makes a good filter, they don't make cheap filters.

As far as the oil filter comparisons go, like the oil discussions, people tend obsess a little too much over it. Fram usually gets dinged in these studies, yet they sell a ton of filters and there are no class action lawsuits. NONE. Some call them junk, but the evidence is conclusive that they are also clearly capable of doing the job, in most applications. Pay more if it helps you sleep. I do that myself, if I'm running extended drain intervals.

Fram did decline to officially cross reference a filter for the GC's, (I made the request), even though they have filters that do work on it. They said, after dong their testing, they did not have a filter that met their standards to be considered "equivalent". Which is evidence they do care.

We can obsess over oil, and filters, which is to some extent understandable, because of the amount of the investment, and the fact that many are new to owning this kind of equipment. But it is a fact that TBN is not full of threads about oil related failure, or wear issues. Which is conclusive evidence that much of the obsessing is unwarranted.

It is also a fact, that TBN's not full of threads where people were denied warranty coverage, because of the brand of oil, or filters they used, which is the other popular unwarranted, obsession.

...And as far as blower shear pins: RAD Technologies makes those blowers for a number of different SCUT manufacturers; I find Kubota's prices (for the exact same, notched shear pins) to be quite reasonable. (And our local Kubota dealer is only 1/2 hr away instead of 1-1/2 hrs away.)

An aftermarket hydraulic filter at my nearest dealership is almost $80 at last purchase. It's another 4 gallons of gas which is $2.20 /gallon in NY where I live right now. If I can spend half on aftermarket AND drive 6 miles instead of almost 80 then yes, it's worth to me. I'll gladly turn the saving into a couple of pizzas for dinner for my family.

Yes, and that's an option, if you decide in advance to change it, get it ordered, and can allow enough time to get it.

It's also nice, if I could go to a nearby parts store, like NAPA, and buy it, because I didn't realize I did not have one on hand, or forgot to order it. :thumbsup:
