GC1705 - DL100 - Float Position

If MFRED says it has a float, I am going with him. The dealer must be wrong, and also not able to engage it.

Believe me, I am looking forward to sharing this new info with the dealer. :D

You mean it won't break that day? :D

The levers do have a habit of breaking.

They stupidly made it thinner, right were all the stress is.

I have had to weld mine. :confused3:

The new joysticks are heavier than what they were using and I can't say I've heard of one breaking. Yet. Downside to that is they're probably just as overpriced as the cheesy bent one on the older models.

Yep I called my dealer (didn't see this thread update) - they confirmed it works, so I stopped being a wuss and got it in float tonight!

You were not pushing hard enough?

Ya - you have to push to levels where you are pretty certain it's going to break, then it clicks into spot with a nice clank. I did it with the tractor off so I wasn't fighting the bucket trying to lift the tractor, haven't put the loader back on to try with the loader yet....

Mine got easier to engage, as I used it.

Mine seems to go there easier if I do it quickly, almost like "snapping" it in to float position.

Well I'll be darned! Just reading threads and seen this one. My 1705 sure does just clank right into float. Can't say I ever used it or even knew it was there. So after reading walked out to the garage and figured it out.

Kevin.

My understanding is the detent was made stiffer on the GC1700 because there were too many complaints of the GC2400/GC2600 popping out of float. I believe they may be looking into a lighter detent spring than the current one being used, but still stiffer than the one used on the GC2400/GC2600.

So for you guys with the backhoes, have you tried the float with the right lever? I tried it with backhoe on stand and didn't seem to work. I need to hook it up and try it. So I just pull towards me on right lever pretty hard?
