gc2300 starter relay source

Hey all,

Recently had a no start issue. Troubleshooting lead me to the starter solenoid (relay) on top of the starter. I removed the solenoid and started to try and source it online. I didn't find anything that said it would work with a Massey GC2300 outside of the dealer for $200. I found one on Amazon that looked the same but I wasn't sure it would fit on my starter. So I ordered it and and starter that was made to fit my tractor as a backup. Well, I am glad to say that the solenoid did fit my tractor oem starter and works great. I am posting in case someone else has the same issue and concerns. The solenoid is made/sold on Amazon by Caltric and the box has a label that says Starter Relay RE401. John Deere Tractor 170 175 180 185 240 245 260 285 but I also believe it will fit some Kawasaki units.​

The replacement looks like the bakelite end cap is swedged on, if the original has machine screws holding it together it can be taken apart and cleaned. Often the square head copper bolts will erode from arcing, they can be carefully tapped out, cleaned, and put back with the new part facing in.
