I use my tractor 50 hours a year. But it is there when I need it. If you can afford it keep it, there is always something that a tractor is need for

Could you define how much is "by not using it much" ???

How old is tractor?
How many total hours on it?
How many hours on it this year?

If you don't have to sell it keep it. You will curse it's absence, and conveniance to do things mechanically the you wouldn't do by hand.

Now now now . . Let's recognize that his failure to use it could be an ongoing health issue . . . and if thats true . . . its a game changer. Whether its a tractor or a great motorcycle or ??? . . . they are only good to have if you can use it (either now or later). Other than that . . it can be a quiet torture. That's why I had asked for some details in the above post before I ventured an opinion.

I was left with older boats and motors and fishing gear that hadn't been used in years that I had to deal with and memories of my Dad looking out at the water from his windows . . . knowing he'd never be "out there" again by himself.

Its a 2010, 190 hours on it. This year I only put 1 hour on it so far and that was just to get her lubed up. I have an ATV and a motorycle that are both in the same boat. The motorcycle I am selling next week because it really isnt worth my time or rent space to keep it. The ATV I only put 1 hour on it just ot lube her up. Going back to the tractor-I would love to keep her but dont want to damage anything by not using her much.

Here is a key question I started asking myself . . . Will I use xyz item next year more than what I have this year?

Why important? Because if the answer is no . . Its probably because I'm no longer having a use for it . . . Or health or responsibilities won't allow me to.

I'm a very longtime motorcycler but not a current or even near current biker. Like you its time for my bikes to either go or be used this next year. So how about you and your tractor?

Letting the tractor sit could have some negative consequences. The battery tender is obvious. Next thing that comes to mind is fuel. During the winter, when I might only use my machine a few times, I fill the tank all the way up to prevent condensation, I also use a additive. BUT, if you have a full tank, and only use a little bit for a year or two....how long will the same fuel be sitting in the tank? 2...3....4 years? I've heard recommendations about putting it up on blocks to avoid getting flat spots on the tires, etc. Not sure how necessary that is. I would worry most about critters chewing up a machine that doesn't get used much....

Also, think about corrosion on things like cylinder arms, make sure you keep them fully retracted, or they turn into sand paper on the seals. I might also worry about engine components that are used to getting oil baths from being run...Anything not sitting in oil will form rust if exposed to air long enough....

And the inevitable moisture caused by different temperatures inside a garage vs. Outside temps.

You have broken the lower limits of your use requirements, as punishment you must send me your tractor free of charge. On a more serious note, It is harder on things, tractors cars houses ect. to sit than to be used. i would sell it, or send it to me. Ed

I keep it in a wood built shed so I hope that its easier on moisture etc than the concrete garage?

Concrete floors certainly introduce moisture . . . But I was referring to the effect that big blocks of metal get cold and stay cold long after the air around them heats up . . Thus condensation.
But if you are a biker . . you already know that from long ago

A gc2410 . . How is it configured? I understsnd they are quite similar to the newer GC1700 series like I have. Is it a backhoe model like the gc1710 or gc1720?
