:laughing: Well, maybe, Ray. Not this summer, however... spent LOTS of hours at the airport trying to bring my PA-22-150 "up to snuff." It had lots of little issues that I discovered as I went over it with a fine-tooth comb after I bought it. Folks didn't see me much at home, for sure. On the bright side, it passed its annual! :cool2:

Nice looking Pacer. It's easy to forget, Piper actually used to make airplanes with the wings in the right place!

Wings in the right place? I always though if it had wings and I was flying it it was a good day. But I do perfer to set on top so I (6'4") am not having to look around the wing root. I almost bought a Tri Pacer once but bought a PA 28 140 with a 160 instead. Grummans where too expensive at the time (1977)

My BH operates in basically the same way, but, I can "crab" the curl of the bucket and pull the boom in at the same time. Albeit at a slower pace, but it can be done. The same with the FEL, I can roll the bucket and lower the FEL slowly but this is easier when empty then loaded. However I do not have the "fast-dump" function the owners manual says I should have when you push the stick far right, mine basically just stops dumping!?!?

I am sure they all work the same way. It is a matter of interpretation of what is happening.

The fact is, they do operate differently than full sized machines. But, they are also much smoother than other compact backhoes I have run.

Try running one of those Terimites sometime. It's a real challenge to be smooth with it.

OLDNSLO is spot on with his comment - its an open center system so the oil will always try to go the path of least resistance. With practice you will learn how to manipulate the levers to get the cylinders to to function at the same time. With that being said, you can cheat a little bit. I believe the boom joystick has a float position in it (left over from an old saftey requirement). If you put the boom in the float position and use the dipper and bucket functions only you can make a flat trench pretty easily with out having to concentrate in positioning the boom properly as you pull the dipper towards you.
