I know a guy that has a 2001 2500 with a Cummins, it goes through a trans every 50k or so. He is afraid to tow with it now.
Technically that's still the same old 47RE transmission from the mid 90's.

The 2002+ RFE and 48RE transmissions are much better and still proven strong today.

I have the same truck. 165K miles. No tranny issues. Don't haul daily, but have plenty of miles towing; utility trailer to tractor and 5th wheel. Longest tow was with 5th wheel, ~4500 miles back/forth from N. Calif foothills to Corpus Christi Tx.

I have done brakes and tires. At 150k had a rear wheel cylinder leak, and recently replaced ball joints.

My Dad spent 45 years working Mopar parts at a Dodge dealer local. Retired three years ago. He did not see trucks lined up at the shop for transmissions...

The only comment I would have about the tranny in my truck, it is a large jump from 3rd to OD.

I got mine with 4.10's. In retrospect, 3.73's would be nice. I might go stick if did it over again. Not because of auto issues, but because I like jamming gears. It is fun driving the Water Tender at the fire station, with the 10spd...

Thats why they call me "the Phord lie detector" lol

Not lieing, just got the #'s messed up in my getting older brain. If I would have done the math I would have known it was 23,000# 15400# is what I can legally pull when you subtract my 7600# truck weight. All I know its more truck does not complain like my 99 F350, 04 F250, or 05 Dmax 3500 did with my boat behind it. Its even happy with 25,000# behind it.
