It would be interesting to get a dozen Mason Jars and fill them with various fuel blends and set them outside in zero temps. Straight D2, D2 w/20% Kero, D2 w/5% bio, D2 w/20% bio, D1 and then all the following combinations with the label dosage of an anti gell additive and then all the combos with a double additive dosage.
LBrown, you have lots of time on your hands....................how about a little fuel experiment in your spare time. After all you have that fuel set up in the storage shed that could be your labratory. It would be your greatest contribution to this site ever!!!

I picked up a new fuel filter for my tractor on my way home today. It's zero now and I just got a water pipe in the house flowing again. Supposed to be 20F tomorrow, so I think that couple of inches on the driveway can just wait!

I've never had any gelling issues using Power Saver but if you wanted to try something different you might want to try some Seafoam additive. I use it regularly in just about everyting else & it does seem to work in some cases. Here's a short video I found on the web about using Seafoam in diesels. If it's any better than any other addivitive I don't have a answer for that but there are a lot of believers out there on some other websites I visit.

A buddy of mine works in a diesel service shop, they specialize in injector and pump rebuilds. He swears by Stanadyne additive. I still use Power Service because it's easy to find. He did say that the Power Service 911 is mostly alcohol and can really do a number on the components.

My woes were solved with the new fuel filter. After changing on Saturday I'm thinking I didn't have gelling at all, just a terribly dirty filter. I guess I should change it more often than every five years, eh?

RobS, as far as the alcohol is the PS 911. I always understood that 911 was only to be used in an emergency when the fuel was already gelled. Since as your friend stated, alcohol is bad for the injector seals. I do have a bottle of 911 in both my diesel cars, but have never needed to use it. The only instance that I had gelling problems was with our 87' Diesel Jeep Cherokee when the temps where down to -27 and I didn't have any anti gell treatment in the fuel. Seems a lot of TBNer's are recommending the 911 PS a little loosely for all around use.

I also think some of the anti gell products for bio need to be splash mixed. You would have to add it to your tank and then add fuel to get it to mix properly with the fuel. You couldn't just dump it in and expect it to work.

I add/use the "Howes Diesel Treat" all year. The fuel is stabilized, no gel, and clean fuel system. Howes will stand behind their product. It's a win/win/win combo!

Why would you use Power Service as a anti-gel agent???
"Arctic Express" would be a better choice.

a) availability; b) as I recall, PS in the white bottle also raises Cetane #

as arctic express blurb says, it is more comparable to Kero for cutting diesel
