Gen Set Mobile or Stationary?

During hurricane Matthew we got this gen directly from Briggs.. no wheel kit.. but since the wifey worked there only $500 ...
Looked into a wheel kit.. they wanted over a $100 bucks... Not happening for a couple of tires, rod and hardware.

Came up with this caster setup instead.. already had the casters and wood..
Works great for me.. no picking up and pulling it . Just tow along.. just used some 2 strap metal conduit holders on opposite corners to hold gen in place on cart. Could've used bolts but wanted easily removed if needed.

Looks like it should be able to roll just about anywhere...

I have used the cheap Harbor Freight 4-wheel dollies but the wheels are smaller and cheaper.

Similar situation to me... I simply bought a large-ish metal 'garden cart' (like a "Radio Flyer" wagon).

I had a local metal-shop knock up a detachable, drop-pin, hitch for the handle and can easily use the lawn tractor to move the unit around the property as needed.

Plus, I can always lift the genny off and have a garden cart for use around the property.

I have thought of doing this. I would have thought the vibration of the running engine would move the unit around during use? Do you chock the wheels or something?

You can if that's a concern but they stay in place on the ground when running it. The ground around here is all soft loamy soil and flat.
I have nothing to worry about with it moving around.
If you ran it on hard pack ground with a slope then that would be a concern.

I've never had to chock as the tyres are rubber/inflated which absorbs any vibration. The cart hasn't moved anytime I've used it. Mind you, my land is flat.

I do employ a grounding stake/grounding wire when using the genny on the cart.

Many years back I picked up an ETQ 8250 (company now gone). It came with two wheels, but I added a shaft and two more wheels for under $20 or so. No steering though, all fixed which means I have to lift one end to turn it, or just drag one end sideways a bit. I can pull it with a lawn tractor over grass OK.

The question of mobile or fixed is easily answered: Trailer hitch with ball and some 30 mph tires (as on my splitter). Useful out in the field, over to a friends or neighbors, and safer to fuel, away from the building.

but yeah that's a really nice setup.
