It's unfortunate, and annoying, when a company sells defective equipment, but it can happen to any company, and I don't know any way TSC could have reasonably done more than they did to make it right.

Bird,

Actually I have nothing but good to say about TSC. I actually know several of employees there on the first name basis. I add a bit subtle humor from time to time to just lighten things up. The TSC manager also went inside the store and brought me a two gallon jug of oil since he realized I serviced the tiller before realizing the problem. I even have no hard feeling toward KK as no one can escape the laws of probability. It was just my turn to get a lemon:(

I bought a CR-50 (50" Agric) from CCM last year & ran it twice on my Deere 655 (about 18ph I think). It worked very well, in part because I could go as slow as needed due to the hydro drive. The unit is built well and the only problem was that the toplink slot was too narrow for my toplink (so I just loosened the bolt & added some washers to increase the spacing). I also discovered 2 huge rocks in my garden (but the tiller didn't seem to mind).

I was a bit nervous about spending $1250 without actually seeing it beforehand but the posts I read here helped and calls to CCM answered my questions. Freight delivery from Tennessee to Northern Virginia was fast & only $135 (pretty reasonable I thought).

I also tried to find a used tiller but had no luck, so now I consider this my tiller for a lifetime. Buying used backblades, rakes, etc. is fine IMO because they're not very complicated, but a bad used tiller could waste a lot of time in repairing. I just had reach the decision that some things in life are worth the money.

I have no connection with CCM other than being a happy customer. I'm posting just to provide another viewpoint.

Dalhan, I looked at my manual and you are correct is says 60" max. I can't imagine why since the 3830 handles it well and does not load the engine as much as my rotary cutter. I will only use it for my large exsisting garden so I think I will be OK. It is really nice to take the wheel tracks out and not have to mess with offsets.

I have used the neighbors 6' KK tiller several times over the last 3 years and My L3830 seems to handle it just fine. I did not know till now that Kubota recommends 60" max tiller. Ignorance was bliss.

I have a 60-inch KingKutter that I purchase late last summer. I used it on virgin soil to plant a green field for deer. It did very well tilling the soil. I used the tiller last weekend to till the same green field (It was waist high in spots), again it did well. I will have the to till the field again to mulch the grass better. Overall I am happy with the tiller. I purchased the tiller for around $1,295 at TSC. I wish it had drain plugs for the gearbox and the gear drive so it would be easier to change the gear oil. I am big on changing oil in my equipment. Another thing to consider when purchasing KingKutter equipment from TSC is the warranty. Unlike like your local tractor and implement dealer, TSC does not do or can handle the service work if you have a problem. I had a minor warranty claim and it was somewhat of a hassle. When it comes to warranty claims with KingKutter you are on your own. Hopefully I will not have many major problems with the tiller. It is built like a tank and does a good job.

I thought I saw a small drain in the PTO gear box, the same size as you have in shaft gear housing assembly. The drain plug I think is right under the PTO shaft facing the back of your tractor. The problem is it just drains on the sheet metal and not enough room to put anything under the plug to catch the dirty oil.
